Beta progress thread

Beta progress

Continuing from my alpha progress thread, here is where I’ll be posting updates on my account throughout the beta period.

I’ve decided to do weekly progress updates for beta - so much happened on week one it’ll be a struggle to keep this first update a readable length but here we go!

I think the end goal for the f2p beta will be to face tank Elvarg during Dragon Slayer (with melee or magic, haven’t decided yet). Lofty, but if I can manage it before beta ends, I’ll be most pleased.

Week One

I played for about 12 hours on launch day but didn’t go super hard for the rest of the week, kept it between 0-2 hours a day. I’m trying to take things relatively slowly because I don’t want to run out of goals prematurely.

Launch!

One of my clan members suggested using world 2 for the tutorial in order to avoid getting stuck fighting for doors/rats/chickens, this turned out to be a great idea and my tutorial run wasn’t super hectic.

I baked some extra bread and saw some friends along the way:

And then I was out! First thing I did was head to the wilderness to grab some spawns. I came away with only gold bars and planks (I am a vulture and did not even try for steel spawns) which gave me enough gp to get started.

Questing

My next goal was some starter quests. Cook’s Assistant/Sheep Shearer/Restless Ghost/Rune Mysteries is my standard start. It’s relatively simple to multiquest all of these together, and they provide some important levels, unlocks, and early game gp.

I killed imps along the way, whenever I saw them. Occasionally, success was limited:

In pretty short order I had my starting quests out of the way:

Having attained some prayer levels, earned some gold, and unlocked both the Lumbridge Cook-O-Matic and the rune essence mines, it was time to continue!

I was a bit pooped from trekking across the game world so I relaxed by mining a couple loads of rune essence in Varrock. While at the bank, I was recruited by friends who wanted to knock out Shield of Arrav.

We had two groups of two players running the quest at once - the Weaponmaster gave us difficulty initially but by boosting Moodi Mujo up to level 5 ranged and using the other players as body blockers, we managed to prevail:

Wandering

For the rest of week one I wandered across the map and tried to complete small bits of content in each place I ended up. Here are some highlights.

Stalking mods and admins:

Getting food poisoning:

Making sure I knew where the important runecrafting altars were:

Finally having killed enough imps:

The first bank screenshot I saw fit to take was on day 2:

My first 10k cash stack was achieved on day 3:

Some purple-themed early game fashionscape:

By day 6 I had managed to assemble best-in-slot magic gear and used it to great effect on some giants:

On day 7 the beta week one hiscores were posted:

And to close out an amazing first week, I met Steelviper, the now-legendary water walker! This fella got stuck out in Taverley lake after an unfortunate firemaking incident. He was wearing some pretty expensive gear and lacked a magic level high enough to teleport himself out, so things were looking grim…

Here’s the shot of Steelviper getting saved by the one random event that wouldn’t have griefed him:

Steelviper escaped unharmed, incurring only the minor inconvenience of having his items noted for ignoring the Mysterious Old Man. A fair price to pay for a free teleport out of a sticky situation!

Here are the final tallies at the end of week one!

Week Two

Late update - week two really ended on the 15th, but here we are. Been pretty busy with work and mod duties so week two was much quieter for me.

I spent the bulk of this week at Draynor willows training woodcutting. Woodcutting, in addition to being my favorite skill in the game, can also be trained semi-afk – as long as you are not hunting tree spirits like I was!

The week I spent at willows gave a great outlook onto the community! Everybody cheered each other on whenever a tree spirit spawned. It’s almost like Jagex already had a good formula for Forestry events, all the way back in 2004…

None of us were lucky enough to get a rune axe however, and the rank 1 smither is rapidly closing in on the level requirement. I expect they will be readily available before the end of week three.

During week two, the second (and currently the largest-ever) major clan war on Lost City took place: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDjl6SCvDBI - worth a watch if you like RuneScape’s special chaotic brand of pvp.

Stayed at willows until level 70:

Then parked my butt at yews and scored a fairly decent drop from a tree spirit (still wish it had been a rune axe tho):
