Rune buying bots

I think we all know that people are using these bots and out of curiosity I thought I’d hang out at a rune shop during the system update. Yep, as soon as I log in there’s the bot accounts buyingall the runes almost instantly, not interacting, immediately logging. This should pretty easy to track down? Will try to get on video during the next update… this is ridiculous

It seems very stupid to buy out the rune stock and transfer it to another account. It could be someone trying to create scarcity to increase the price of their legitimately earned runes, in which case you wouldn’t be able to tie the bots to their main account. That’s what I would do if I was a devious market manipulator, anyway.

Just got called a bot and reported. It’s called mobile - > Mouse buttons one - > zoom into the runes - > two thumbs powertapping the same area. You can buyout a stock in seconds. No botting needed.

Mobile is inauthentic.

As much as I have a distaste for mobile, and although it is true that nobody could play RuneScape on a phone in 2004, touch screens did exist, and in principle you could get a touch screen monitor for your PC and play RuneScape. Did anyone do this? Probably not many if any, but in principle it could have happened.

you’re sure they’re bots because they bought runes and hopped worlds?

Maybe so, but I just hopped between worlds a few times to buy mind runes myself with no other interaction, noticed all stock was at around 270 on each world though.

I’m curious how the XP input stack would handle multi-touch finger input with IE or if it would have?

This seems authentically testable today with XP, IE, and the client in Java form (Client2?). I could test it on a Dell Studio AIO but I’m not sure how important this would really be vs trying to find the DDR2 RAM for it :stuck_out_tongue:

I am actively buying these runes out and I am absolutely not botting. Believe me, I and my hands wish I were.

I have experience seeing the shops over multiple days for little over a week. Some times the air runes are bought down to 1600 and sometimes the minds have like 260, other times the airs at at 2000 and the minds at 750+. There are always about 50-100 chaos and death in stock.

I don’t think there is any funny business going on in Varrock or Port Sarim, I just think it’s a consequence of the need for runes.

Report them for botting, mods investigate each report and have tools to identify if they’re bots or alts

I spend much of my time buying runes from shops but I’ve never seen anyone who looks conclusively like a bot. Admittedly, I spend a very short amount of time in each world, though, so perhaps I don’t catch them, but I very frequently find stocks of hundreds of death/chaos runes as well as thousands of mind runes and air runes, so I’m somewhat doubtful that these bots are as impactful as you’re suggesting.

Logged in today, went to buy more mind runes and the first two worlds had 700+ in stock. Maybe OP just there at a busy time?

it was immediately after a system update when everyone gathers around the rune shop ready to buy out the stock.

As Red_Bracket mentioned, reporting them in-game is the best way to get rid of them. An ingame report massively helps our staff identify and trackdown rulebreaking activities. I’d recommend going for #7 “Marcroing”, in this case.

I cannot stress enough that reports are actively looked at, by hand, by our staff. This means that your report actually do matter a whole lot.

Hope to see you all in-game! May the XP gains be huge.

I don’t think it’s bots per sa, we’re all just old and ugly enough to know how to min-max the game regardless of the year. I don’t think anything could be done to redress it without it dirtying the reputation of it being a faithful 2004 replica. Be it instanced shops, purchase cap, or fast restock. The real answer is to train runecrafting.

I wouldn’t mind if the shops restock timer was made worse lol, make ‘hop n hoard’ a waste of time and encourage players to runecraft or barter.

Pretty much what I have been doing, I craft the air runes but hop around buying minds. I think when I have more cash I’ll buy from players but in all honesty it doesn’t take much time to buy few thousand, highest price is 18 per.
