Release rares on members launch day

Random drops at random coordinates in the map, with no despawn. It should last 24 hours long from release. Once they are all collected, then they become discontinued and traded as they were in 2004. Put a cap on how many of each rare will be introduced, like 1,000 or 5,000, etc. I think this is the best and most fair way to introduce rares. Any thoughts? I hope the mods will do this right.

For context drops on floor were how rares were introduced in classic and yet again in osrs before they released them in holiday rewards. So it only makes sense to keep it og and fair for everyone.

I like rares definitely, but I’m not sure they can be implemented in a non-market breaking way you know? If there was a way to have them just stay as a cool bank filler that didn’t disproportionally affect your market value I’d definitely be for them being introduced

It’s basically a brand new economy on release with the member server. It makes sense to release them on opening day and then supply/demand will determine if rares will have value going forward. I think its healthy for the economy if players have an item they can hold that will go up long term, or have a high value rare as a goal to work towards.

That’s a fair point. It’s definitely going to be a whole new ball game with members content. I’m wondering what it will do with the current market you know? Will the big ticket items bottom out? Or will they slowly decrease to a more reasonable amount.

Items like rune scim will dump hard since dlong will be best in slot. Dragon killing will be the best consistent money maker so lots of pking day 1 members. A lot of fresh gp entering the game so would be good for the economy to have rares for people to invest into long term like in the original 2004.

1,000 or 5,000 is way too much.100 or 500 would be much better, even if it means I don’t manage to get one.

funny thing about that is rune scim is very competetive with dlong at dps, especially against lower def npcs

dps varies depending on ur current maxhit with either weapon

but with fire giants dropping them frequently and already 3 ppl being able to smith them, they’re bound to sink to 20-30k range

regarding the original topic tho, i’d prefer just cosmetic rares, kind of like osrs handles it. or none at all

In my opinion, cosmetic rares are pointless. People wore partyhats, santas, and h’ween masks back in 2004 as a status symbol to show off their wealth and hard work towards their account. Ideally I agree with grammar that 500 or under would be a better number, to more accurately reflect the high prices in 2004. I believe all partyhats were 5m+ in 2004, although with a lot more gp in the game at that time.

At the end of the day this is supposed to be authentic to how Runescape was. Pazaz has already stated that he thinks the biggest mistake osrs ever did was poll content/updates, so if rares are ever added I am sure he will find a way to do it to be as authentic as possible, without the need for community approval/opinions.

The problem is that no matter what happens it’s going to be inauthentic. Not adding them means the game wont have all items that were in the game in at the time, while adding them means the timeline won’t be chronological.

Yeah it is definitely a dilemma. I absolutely love the game and economy so far and I think Pazaz will release them in the best way possible. Just figured I’d share my thoughts as a 20 year rs player!
