It has come to my attention that some players, despite their high skill ranks, may be unknowingly taken advantage of when selling mithril bars. This is not a result of personal fault but rather a lack of understanding regarding the math behind the transactions.
For context, a mithril platebody alchs for 3,120 GP. If you’re selling mithril bars to certain buyers at 630 GP each, it’s important to realize that this equates to them essentially buying experience at a rate of 30 GP per 250 XP.
The math is as follows:
Mithril bar price: 3,150 GP
High alch price: 3,120 GP
Difference: 30 GP
This is an unfair transaction, and it’s crucial to be aware of such schemes. Even though these buyers may appear to be high-level players, they could be taking advantage of your lack of understanding about XP/GP rates.
While I may have unintentionally interfered with your moss giant kills, as a respected member of the community, I would never intentionally try to steal GP from you.
Please stay vigilant and take care when engaging in transactions like these.
Don’t forget there’s a cost for the Nature Rune!
Plus a smaller, but still there, cost for the time to actually convert the bars to Smithing exp! It’s all part of the trade! - or did I misunderstand your logic?
Big ups for looking out
Of course, hence why them paying 30gp/250 xp is unfair as the time creation and minerals it takes to smith mithril bars is far greater than the price they are farming the xp at.
its important to consider what you are willing to sell the xp at and not be taken advantage of.
youre protecting the wrong individuals. Merchants are doing just fine, but im sure they love you standing up for them too, the smithers are the one being taken advantage of.
To be fair theres only so many rune axes, rune scims and rune kites they can sell before everyone who wants one has one. This server doesnt have all that many players after all. And getting to 96 smithing was probably like 10-20m loss, leaving barely any room for profit. Bucko also got hacked a few weeks ago and lost everything. They probably get bombarded with pms every few minutes too from people wanting to under/overcut their offers. In the end I think they deserve every bit of profit they are able to get now that they dont need to train anymore.
I learned from my time playing RuneScape Classic Preservation that many players do not understand the relationship between supply, demand, and price. People think a high price means greed or it’s a ripoff, and that there should be standard price guides that people have to stick to. It’s woefully ignorant.
