No Trading Challenge Progress Thread

As the title states, simply a thread to track my progress on my no trades account–largely for my own archival purposes and motivation.

Thoughts

Turns out it’s a lot harder to self sustain playing like it was 21 years ago! I’m having a blast though and have no intentions of stopping anytime soon.

The primary focus for me overall during the first few weeks is just exploring some nice routes for multi skilling to make the most of the distance I need to cover for some methods, as well as finding out of the way spots I can incorporate to have less competition for resources.

My main endeavour at the current moment is crafting, to get access to some less contested silver spots–and to do so I’m giving pottery a try.

The current route is to run down to the west varrock mine, grab the 3 silver rocks there, fill up on clay, grab 3 more silver rocks on the way out, and head to the cook’s guild, making my soft clay one-by-one, then spinning, firing, rinsing, and repeating. Honestly I should add grabbing some coal from barb to the mix… It’ll add up over time!

And when I get tired of that, I do a little runecrafting route in Falador:

Craft some Airs, kill some cows, bank, repeat. Runecraft, prayer, melee, and stored crafting XP all in one!

Who knows what the XP per hour of it all is or if its even any kind of “efficient”, but I’m having a blast trying out things I would never have before

TL;DR: Grinding towards crafting & mining guild, testing weird skilling routes, and having a blast playing like it’s 2004 again. No ragrets!

That being said, I have dipped my toe into some of the more… sweaty methods, and boy are they fun, just not all the time non-stop! Here’s an example of some fun fly fishing strats to net a good amount of fishing and cooking xp at the same time. Haven’t fully mastered it yet, but all in due time :face_in_clouds:

Signing off from mothership Gielinor, see you next time!

Lots of levels today… 84 to be exact! Spent the morning cashing in the rest of my mind runes plus some additional crafted ones to get 36 magic, just shy of unlocking all teleports.

And of course, Elvarg stands in my way no longer, after an intensely slow battle, I emerged victorious to claim my cache of XP, and of course the right to wear rune pl8s. To celebrate I went ahead and cashed in the crafting XP I had banked already to inch myself towards the crafting guild.

All that’s left now to put a bow on Dragon Slayer is to raise enough funds to snag full rune: about 148k. Sword and Pickaxe are my priority though! Those will only run me 53k, ezpz once I cash in on some iron I intend to mine throughout the week.

Full fight:

Lots of other miscellaneous skilling throughout the day too, primarily runecrafting minds and airs, and stacking up a hefty 500 cowhides… Enough to put me right at 40 crafting!

I’ve been trying to think of routes I can craft the leather on, since its something you can do while walking, and crafting it while on the way back to the bank from the tannery in Al Kharid has a lot of downtime at the bank. I was considering maybe on the way to fishing lobsters, since there’s a ton of walking time from draynor to the bank to craft and drop, though missing out on the roughly 20k cash I’d get would be a bit painful (perhaps as painful as it would be to sell it all effectively to shops however…).

Tomorrow will mostly be camping at willows in Draynor as I’ve accidentally neglected quite a few responsibilities while this game has taken over my life  Which leads me to say I won’t be posting these daily as that would be a bit too spammy, I just felt like I made enough progress today with finishing all F2P quests that it was worth posting!

Catch ya l8r!

Great progress! Gratz on doing dragon slayer and finishing up all the quests. Looking forward to your next post

No trading is hardcore. Congrats on slaying Elvarg! Interested to see how much further you go on your f2p run.

Are you staying on the f2p worlds? Or doing p2p?

Definitely heading over to p2p when it drops. Loving experiencing F2P but the access afforded from p2p skills and areas for resources are waaaay too good to pass up.

Thoughts

So much mining this week, somewhere in the realm of 40 trips to the crafting guild, and a few sleepless nights mining iron when the worlds were quieter finally pushed me over the line to 60/59,… mining, getting me closer to my main money maker in the form of Steel Platebodies! (after a few more smithing levels, of course)

Much to the chagrin of the game trying to take my beloved pickaxe away from me…

Already started stacking a bit of coal in the mining guild at 59 with Dwarven Stouts, and hoping to round off 2k coal before too long so I can get to smelting the bars, and making the pl8s :moneybag:! In the meantime though, I’ve been working on runecrafting Minds and Airs, since im going to need quite a few to unlock High Alch to properly cash in my steel.

Of course all that Alching is going to need a steady stream of nats, for which I’ve been thinking about fire striking at Ice Warriors due to their pretty high chance of dropping some (and the spare law runes wont hurt either!) Between that and some melee/range training at Dark Wizards & Giants, I should be set and well on track to round out base 40s in no time.

Overall happy with my slow but steady progress, despite not being able to play as much I’m still having a blast working towards my goals when I’m able to carve out a few hours. Really looking forward to prepping for P2P, which I’ll be doing once I can stack up some cash. This week will be another quiet one, mining and runecrafting when I can… But gainz are on the way if I’m just a bit patient!

So long for now!
