NEW Players / Early game GPđź’° Money Making by Ivy

Hey! I’m Ivy, and I’ve met plenty of players who see me mining with my Rune pickaxe or slaying Hill Giants with my Rune longsword, wondering how I made the GP to afford these items!

So, I’ll share the method I’ve used to make my GP. If you have other methods, please share them down below!

1. Quests for Easy GP

Since you’ll likely be completing quests anyway, you can take advantage of The Black Knights’ Fortress, which gives 2,500 GP—a great boost to get started!

Quest Requirements:

The quest requires 12 Quest Points (QPs) and a few items. To get those 12 QPs, complete the following quests:

  • :cyclone: Rune Mysteries (1 QP & access to mine Rune Essence)
  • :ghost: The Restless Ghost (1 QP, 1,125 Prayer XP, & Ghostspeak Amulet)
  • :sheep: Sheep Shearer (1 QP, 60 GP, & 150 Crafting XP)
  • :broken_heart: Romeo & Juliet (5 QPs)
  • :hatched_chick: Ernest the Chicken (4 QPs & 300 GP)
    • Tip: While in Draynor Manor, grab a Bronze Med Helm from downstairs in Count Draynor’s chamber—you’ll need it for The Black Knights’ Fortress!

After these quests, you’ll have 385 GP (+25 GP from the start) and the required 12 QPs. With that GP, buy an Iron Chainbody from Horvik in Varrock.

:warning: Important: DO NOT use a cabbage from Draynor Manor!

Completing Black Knights’ Fortress:

Once completed, you’ll receive 2,500 GP! Use it to buy a Steel and Mithril Pickaxe from Nurmof’s Pickaxe Store in the Dwarven Mines near the Black Knights’ Fortress.

After finishing Black Knights’ Fortress, start The Knight’s Sword quest by speaking to the Squire in Falador.

2. The Knight’s Sword for 1–29 Smithing

To skip a lot of early Smithing training, completing The Knight’s Sword is HIGHLY recommended as it boosts your Smithing from Level 1 to 29!

Items Needed:

  • :hammer_and_wrench: 2 Iron Bars
  • :pie: Redberry Pie (can make yourself, but requires 10 cooking)
(your remaining GP should be enough to buy these items from other players)

3. Doric’s Quest for Mining XP

Before mining efficiently, complete Doric’s Quest for:
:white_check_mark: 1,300 Mining XP
:white_check_mark: 160 GP

Items Needed:

  • 6 Clay
  • 4 Copper Ores
  • 2 Iron Ores (Go to the Varrock SE Mine and ask players mining Iron for help! This server has a great community, and someone will likely give you 2 Iron Ore!)

After Doric’s Quest, you’ll be around level 13-14 Mining if you haven’t trained it before. Train it up to level 15 so you can start mining Iron Ore, then you can do what I do!

4. My GP-Making Method: Mining & Smithing

Step 1: Power Mining Iron

  • Mine Iron Ore and smelt it into Iron Bars
  • Smith Iron Bars into Iron Platebodies

Step 2: Selling Iron Platebodies

  • Sell 3-5 Platebodies at a time to Horvik in Varrock
  • Hop worlds and repeat

I used this method to:
:white_check_mark: Buy an Adamant Pickaxe
:white_check_mark: Continue mining & smithing until I could afford a Rune Pickaxe (which significantly sped up the process)
:white_check_mark: Save enough GP to buy a Rune Longsword from the Champions’ Guild Shop

Soon, I’ll be able to repeat this method with Steel Platelegs & Steel Platebodies—something I’m looking forward to!

Final Thoughts

This was just my approach to making GP early on, and I hope it helps anyone struggling with early-game money-making! If you know of any other great methods, please share them in the comments—I’d love to hear them! :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy skilling! :tada:

A Rune Shortsword should be preferred instead of a Longsword due to the attack speed, imo.
