Are the micro disconnects a server side thing?

Yeah. For me personally it tends to be worse on servers that are far away. I tend to stick to w12 (Japanese) and I’d say every 30 minutes I get a 10 second connection lost message.
My understanding is not that it’s a DDOS attack, but that the DDOS protection doesn’t care if people are randomly knocked off, so it just does that. Kind of crazy to me that it still hasn’t been resolved, though.
Well the issue certainly is the DDoS attack, given how it’s continuously ongoing and how expensive it is to mitigate this kind of problem (even Jagex conceeded to the DDoSers back in early OSRS, unbanning their accounts and introducing gravestones). There is simply nothing you can do from a technical level, other than continue to throw money at the problem so real players get a better experience and slightly fewer disconnects
