Known Scammer: Tax Evasion

Mods,

Please explain why this player is still in the game?

He has been reported multiple times.

See: "Tax Evasion" is a scammer

He just tried to scam me out of 2m by changing 2.4m to 240k. gp.
Please check server logs between 12:50 pm EST and 12:52pm EST to find the evidence of his attempted scam.

Moreover, please explain why you have not already banned a player who has been reported multiple times.

Is he a friend of the mod team?
Is trade scamming allowed on the server?

These are rhetorical questions and not being asked in earnest. I type them simply to convey how damaging it is to players’ confidence in the server. There have been multiple requests for clear explanation and enforcement of the rules, some which I have personally led and been a part of.

This is such a low hanging fruit ban. What is the barrier to moving forward?

PS - Tax Evasion seems to insta-log after each attempted scam. Does this somehow circumvent the reporting system?

PPS - I have typed this in haste without the thoughtfulness it deserves. Please excuse the bluntness and brevity as I am on my lunch break and short of time.

Thanks for posting, in the future please use the support centre for requests like these: https://2004.lostcity.rs/account/login?redirectUrl=/support

We don’t discuss other players’ punishments in public. What I will say though is item scamming is not typically a one-strike offence, this player might have been warned or even temporarily banned in the past.

We’ll look into things and if this constitutes a repeated offence, that’ll be dealt with accordingly.

Logging out has no effect on the report system, if he thinks this is helping him in some way it’s totally placebo.

Good looking out and I’m glad you didn’t get scammed  stay safe out there!

Thank you, Branon, for your reply!

I wouldn’t mind scammers being shamed in public. Many commercial operations post the pictures of shoplifters and thieves on a wall of shame board.

While I do believe in a right to privacy, I believe scamming should forfeit that privilege.

At minimum, if players submit a report and action is taken, it would be useful to know as much. Submitting reports without feedback feels like yelling into the void.

The community can be the eyes and ears on the ground for the mod team, but without feedback, using the in-game reporting system feels demotivating.

Granted, the feedback I am requesting is ONLY JUST being rolled out by Jagex themselves - I imagine this must be a gargantuan task. An easier solution might be publishing bans and actions taken against accounts for the public to see.

Jagex did something kind of similar to this when they implemented the jail random event and allowed players to throw rotten tomatoes at bots and banned accounts to shame them for their cheating behavior.

IMPORTANT question: Should players be using the support center to follow up in-game reports with specific details that may help the mods investigate their report?

If so, which option is best fit:

  • Request help with my in-game account
  • Appeal an in-game mute
  • Appeal an in-game ban
  • Appeal a forum ban/suspension
  • Appeal a Discord ban/timeout

@branon - Gently, and respectfully bumping this thread in search of a response.

Per the OP - Can you please advise if action has been levied against Tax Evasion’s account.

If not, please advise why his in-game behavior did not amount to an actionable offense.

No sorry, we don’t discuss the results of reports or the details of other players’ punishments - your report is appreciated and has been looked into, and the matter is now closed

Yes, this is fine - use “Request help with my in-game account”
