Items instantly despawn on death

Imagine wasting 10 hours for items to instantly despawn on a death. Suppose its better than wasting 3 months on f2p for Jagex to shut down a server anyways.

This is how true Runescape is and should have continued to be, your items are gone after 30 seconds, good luck on the rebuild if you keep playing.

Items do not despawn immediately on death. They are visible to all players immediately and last for exactly two minutes before despawning.

The death mechanics in this version of the game are extremely brutal! Do not carry your cash stack (or anything you’re not willing to lose) in your inventory, keep it in the bank.

Brother, I have played the game as long as anyone else here. You do not suicide to an npc in lumbridge to respawn and not have loot 20 ticks away. Im sure it will be fixed.

Did the game lag at all before or during your death?

Its beta, I shouldn’t have been annoyed… was just having a ton of fun lol.

What’s your in-game name? I can check to see what happened. Someone else might have picked up your items (deathpiles appear for all players immediately)

back in 2001 though items only despawn after like 15-30 minutes you had time to go get your stuff back

In game name is skrt, if you die inside the karamja volcano your loot instantly despawns. I instantly blamed the guy next to me until I watched someone die.

The time limit here is 0 lol, I know better now.

The time limit is not zero and there is nothing special about the Karamja volcano. Here’s what happens to your items when you die down there:

Items appear for all players instantly and the despawn timer is 2 minutes. You died in the volcano on at 2025-02-17 17:49:53 UTC and your items dropped to the floor. Nobody picked them up within 2 minutes (I can confirm the other player down there with you is innocent!) so they despawned.

I do not believe it’s possible to make it from Lumbridge back to the volcano in under 2 minutes.

If you see players dropping nothing on death it only means they weren’t carrying more than 3 items (or 4 and they had protect item on). They will still drop bones.

Brother, the other player is innocent. His name is “trees”. I was there with my mate last night and he died… I waited on his pile for his loot and it never spawned. I do no care about this, nor do I care what happens with this. I do not want to argue about pixels, especially not 10k. There is a problem… take it or leave it lol.

I would love to log in though lol

Yes, I can confirm Trees did not loot your pile after it dropped.

What’s your friend’s in-game name? I can look into that one as well. It’s always possible there could be bugs but this would be the first report we’ve seen of deathpiles not appearing at all.

It is spelt weird, Id have to see my friends list in order to tell ya. We intentionally went to train together because of what happened to me… still didn’t save the loot. We just learn not to die… Im playing like a hardcore now lol.

Please keep it this way.

Today I lost all of my runes and it was my first death - I realized then and there that everything you keep in this game is highly earned through hard work and survival

No lmao.

  1. that was in RSC

  2. It was always like this, appeared instantly to everybody and if nobody picked it up you had 2-3 mins to get back and loot your stuff.

Maybe brush up on your history a little if you’re going to state things with conviction.

It’s exactly as it should be, if you die - you lose stuff. None of this OSRS coddled “here have all the time in the world to run back!”

Here’s one for you. The spawn timer is definitely bugged or somethinig because I got back to my loot pile before the 2 mins and nothing was there. I highly doubt anyone picked the stuff up. My ingame name is the same as forums.

are you sure nobody just looted your deathpile?

You died near the Taverley gate at 4/13/2025, 2:02:34 AM UTC.

At 2:04:35 AM UTC (2 minutes and 1 second later) you had just left the north Falador entrance.

You were impressively close but there was still most of a map chunk between you and your pile when it despawned. Sorry :slightly_frowning_face:
