==============
One of the coolest RSPS sources I ever played with was called Project Z, a custom server with zombie survival themes and PvP enabled everywhere.
There seem to have been many iterations of Project Z across multiple game revisions. Possibly these were different projects sharing the same name, but here is the one I think I remember: Project Z | Zombie Survival | - Runescape - moparisthebest.com
Side note, if anyone finds a download for the source above, please let me know! All I can find now are old project/advertisement threads but I swear there was a public release at some point…
I think it’d be ultra cool to create a custom Lost City server with these sorts of modifications. We have a few community servers running already with vanilla+ changes, but nobody hosting custom content yet that I am aware of.
This thread is for theorycrafting ideas and game mechanics that would make a survival server interesting, feel free to leave your thoughts!
Some considerations I’ve come up with:
- It’d be interesting to see how far we could get with RuneScript alone. No (or very minimal) engine changes would make it easy to stay in sync with Lost City upstream
- F2P map only? With items or NPCs imported selectively from p2p.
- Use random event timer for surprise zombie spawns
- Tweak double random event timer in wilderness
- Different world spawn density for zombies based on locale
- Custom weapons, armor, NPCs, drop tables, reduced NPC spawn lists
- Food/water/sleep
- Day/night cycle (possible with RuneScript?)
- Can zombies break down doors? Go up ladders? How far can we take pathfinding?
- Which areas are safe? Only spawn, or others?
- Are there banks? I had an idea about having non-shared “stash” locations in place of each bank. Maybe you have to build them first, with planks and tiles…
- How would non-combat skills fit in? Would there need to be changes made to fishing, cooking, or even changes to what happens when food is consumed?
- Weight system/encumbrance
- Class system
- Party system? Might require custom interfaces
- Changes to magic? Restricting teleports might be fun
This is just a small list I wrote up for now because I’m bored at work and daydreaming… check back later for updates!
