I have many questions (real phat in the wild)

So apparently this guy was investigated by a mod for having a phat and was given the all clear. My question is how is this possible, are there ways to get phats that we haven’t been told about or that shouldnt even be in the game? Please advise.

What in tarnation :cowboy_hat_face::cowboy_hat_face::cowboy_hat_face:

I think it’s cool that early players who volunteered a considerable amount of time to help development are getting a form of recognition. It doesn’t provide any unfair advantage over other players, either. It’s too bad the most contentious type of item was chosen though. If you play on the Lost City servers you’ll have less of a headache if you accept that members of mod team are fallible and generally don’t care about how you feel about controversial decisions made.

Honestly I just hope this opens the flood gates and lets us see rares added for everyone

Things like this make the game feel more like a fun private server than a historical preservation server. There should not be any instances of items being spawned for or granted to players for free, regardless of how influential or contributory they or their work was.

If this is why they got the blue party hat I suppose I don’t mind but when the Wise Old Man is introduced the ‘party hat’ he telegrabs from elfinlocks it’s a separate item from actual party hats. It has a separate item ID. This is the item that those devs/play testers should get and it should be untradeable. I’m fine with that.

Yeah this server is cooked.

Being able to sell the one and only partyhat in the game for millions surely is an unfair advantage

I agree that it’s not in the spirit of preservation, but I think there are ways to offer non-obtainable event items carefully. OpenRSC has scythe and bunny ear drops each year that are authentic to the days and hours of the year they were offered. Offering bunny ears to players on 2004Scape that logged in during Easter Weekend was nice, too. Neither of those are authentic but are a fair solution to receiving normally unobtainable holiday items.

The point I want to drive home, though, is that the live servers are always going to lack some authenticity, whether it’s because game breaking bugs need to be removed, or a developer wants to make minor changes that they find justifiable within a sever, thats ethos is clearly defined, but leaves a lot of room for malleability. It is what it is.

It doesn’t have a tradeable=no tag so no. It is 100% tradable unless they went directly into the code for trading and made a check if this player tries to trade this specific item cancel trade. Which I know they didn’t do.
