Put 'em in the general store
One way could be to give everyone who logs in on the day of the first upcoming Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc. to get all or 1 random tradeable rare that was released said date in 2001-2003. The tradeable half full wine and disk of returning, and untradeable scythe and bunny ears could be for everyone who logs in on that day.
All rares should be given to the mods and we’ll handle the distribution ourselves
I think they should be added as extremely rare drops for any activity in the game. Fishing, WC, killing monsters, etc. Kinda like obtaining a pet. 1/5000 or something and just have it be a month long event.
Once its done its done.
Alternatively distribute the current playerbase amount and have mods drops them at specific times in a drop party style event.
I don’t want them distributed at all. Rares (especially if they stay truly rare) destabilize the economy and give a huge unfair advantage to people who were just here at the right time.
That’s rs2 for you though. I think it should be as similar to how it happened as possible, and let them stay rare instead of reissuing like osrs did.
Best way to have rares come into games is simply clue scrolls. Let em be rare but not as rare as 3rd age (seeing how getting and completing clues in 04scape takes MUCH longer than in OSRS).
This assumes everyone plays as a main and has comparative capabilities of completing clue scrolls. There are level 3 skillers that would have 0 chance of obtaining, while some pvmers would have chances to receive multiples. That’s def a no
if they cant complete the content then theyll have to buy them. they only limit themselves.
Note: there are plenty of steps that require only digging in a spot, so theyd be able to complete it should they be lucky enough
But its not really your choice. They were in the game in 2004 which means the staff needs to figure out how to implement them the right way.
Never distributed!
Horrible take considering that’s what rates are. Being on the game in the right place at the right time
Don’t be just a skiller on 2004scape. That simple. This isn’t a bad implementation as every player has a fair chance.
The rates stay in the game forever for anyone who wants to grind for them. Rares were distributed once and once only, and they have value orders of magnitude higher than the rarest monster drops. Every player does not have a fair chance once the distribution window is over.
It’s not my choice, but this thread was created to ask players what their choice would be if they had it to make, so I gave my answer.
I assume by ‘rares’, you are referring to the holiday items that were only obtainable in RuneScape Classic. The only ‘legitimate’ way for players to obtain these items after Classic would’ve been relying on Moderators to spawn them in - which some of us really do not want to do!!
It’s still being debated though whether or not we’re comfortable spawning in rares for players.
I think the best way would be to have a shop sell them for about the price they were in 2004. This would keep the price high, which would be authentic. It would also make something to work toward for, while not providing an unfair advantage to people who where here at the beginning.
I was actually able to find a post on a forum from June 2005 with all partyhat prices. Blue was 60-70m and purple was 26-30m. I’m sure with more digging we could find 2004 prices.
I really don’t like any solution that involves editing server code
i think it’s best to not distribute any that were given out in RSC as there is no way to authentically give them out. i would LIKE to see them sure but i dont know if there is an ethical way to give them out. maybe do what OSRS did and every holiday event gives you all of them that pertains to that specific holiday?
