How do you approach the game? (Economy, Skilling, Ironmanstyle vs Trading?)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been wondering how people are currently approaching 2004scape, especially with the lower player count and the resulting changes in the in-game economy.

Since fewer players are online and the market is a lot smaller than it used to be, many items are understandably much more expensive. That got me thinking, how do you guys make GP nowadays? Do people still chop yew trees by example and sell them, or do you fletch/firemake them yourself for the XP instead? Is it even worth trying to sell raw materials?

In general, are most of you playing a more ironman like way or is trading still a big part of your gameplay?

Curious to hear how others are adapting to the current state of the game. Woulde love to hear your thoughts or strategies.

Cheers,
L33t

For me it’s mostly ironman style. I do buy items that are hard or tedious to obtain: e.g. Bulk arrows, amulet of glory or certain clue scroll uniques. Other items I try and get myself mostly, especially if there’s a decent xp reward.

Items that are easy to get but do not reward me with (much) xp (vials of water, rune essence, snape grass etc.), I sometimes gather myself and sometimes buy from other players, depending on my cash stack.

Honestly, very similar to my playstyle in 2005, when most items were hard to buy anyway.

I like playing ironman style and gaining levels but i will buy more resources or things I don’t have the level for.

It’s not hard to sell ores and such for gp as there is quite the demand for them. Especially steel and gold. But if i want to make raw gp myself, I just alch magic bows. Personally i try not to have a lot of gp on hand but rather invest it in resources since they hold their value way more.

Similar to Neb, I have been investing my gp into items as I get it for the whole duration of the server. The most cash I’ve ever seen is 10m and that didn’t last for long. I adjust my purchasing based on how much excess gp I have so that if I have more gp it’ll go faster. I put my gp into supplies that I’m interested in using in the future or supplies I know will hold/gain value.

I generate wealth through woodcutting, fishing, and more recently thieving. I’m not interested in cooking, fletching or firemaking at the moment so I prefer to sell the resources I collect to be able to buy resources that are harder or less fun for me to collect. If I ever need logs or raw fish in the future I can always do more wc or fishing.

To me the economy is very much alive in this game. Trading can take time, you might have to haggle, and you can’t always find what you’re looking for, but with patience and consistency it still pays off and makes a huge difference over fully ironmanning the game. I find trading with real people, even in a lower population game, much more fun than trading with a computer like OSRS has.

Coming from more recently playing f2p osrs ironman for a few years. I find myself leaning more towards the trading gameplay. Its refreshing to be able to purchase items that don’t fit your gameplay style and selling things that do. Also brings more nostalgia as it is closer to how I used to play in rs2.

I’m usually focused on xp over gp.
Most of the time my cash stack sits below 800k.
I spend money on training melee (potions mainly), mage (runes) and range (potions, arrows, knives, cannonballs) I buy skilling supplies for skills that either I can make profit on or that give fast xp.

I do tend to give gifts often, especially to new players (or sometimes people who lose items to genie random) :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I make money from selling supplies and resources (from skilling and killing).
Also test my rng luck killing Fire giants or doing easy or medium clue scrolls.

Currently focusing on strength, then range. So more money to be made and spent yet.:+1:
Haven’t spent much time at dragons yet

I prob could be making alot more then I do, but I’m still getting used to the non ironman life again

Edit: I agree with Pasta (as strange as that may sound out of context) that trading with players is alot more fun than not trading with players. Its partly what makes the community vibe so strong.

I like to think of the entire community as one big group ironman. So I mostly try to do things myself but I’ll trade for resources that are difficult for me to obtain.

Usually I sell raw materials (fish, logs, ores) to buy more specialty items (runes, potions, equipment, jewelry) that I may not have the levels or ingredients to manufacture myself.

This as well. It feels authentic and immersive when I occasionally can’t find something for sale and have to shoulder the burden myself. I like to think I come out a slightly better player on the other end.
