Hi, there is a problem, a user by the name of Gr1mreaper87 has been scamming several people for multiple weeks in Varrock west bank. His scam involves putting in a rune scimitar noted. Declines. Trades again, however this time he puts an adamant scimitar noted into the trade. Unfortunately, I fell for the scam. Several people have reported to me hes been scamming for weeks. I observed him after the scam and it looks like he trades a mule and logs off. I would appreciate it if a moderator could possibly look into this. Please check my logs for proof. I also have several people who could vouch that he has been scamming for some time. Apparently hes been reported multiple times to no avail. Thank you.
I don’t know you at all, but I remember seeing someone talking about exactly this with the same user 2 weeks ago when I bought my scim. GL getting it sorted, I hope the scammer is dealt with. Mods have been amazing at dealing with douches so far.
Yeah the problem is that mods haven’t looked into it. He’s been doing it for several weeks now without any consequence. I implore you to ask around about Gr1mreaper87. Mods clearly stated that this is a 1-1 of original Runescape, so if they want to uphold that standard, item scamming was a bannable offence back in 2004. I don’t really care that I got scammed, it just shows my foolishness, and I certainly wouldn’t have reported it on the forums if it was just me getting scammed. However, after the matter, numerous individuals came up to me and told me he’s been doing the same thing for several weeks now. I don’t want others getting scammed. From what I’ve heard the mods are very active on this server, however I still haven’t received any communication, so we shall see.
Wait, I think I had an encounter with him as well.
I was trying to buy a rune scimitar for 30k, and he tried to scam me with ‘absolutely nothing’. I guess I accepted too fast for him to switch the addy scimi.
I reported him for item scamming, I hope a mod can look into this.
I always double check both trade screens carefully before accepting. Especially if the item is noted or it’s a large cash stack. Spend at least 3-5 seconds to study the final trade screen to see what’s really being offered.
I’m really sorry that happened to you man. What’s worse is if the mods actually did something about this you wouldn’t have been scammed. This is exactly why I posted this on here, to prevent others from getting scammed. My impression was that the general consensus is that the servers moderators are transparent and active, but that hasn’t been my experience yet. Still no communication after this post, several responses on this thread, several reports, a direct ticket. Nothing.
You have full control over the outcome of any trade you’re involved in, so why are you so hung up on the mods doing something about this? These scams only work on people that are impatient and don’t spend a few seconds double checking the last trade interface. I’ve been trade scammed before; someone traded me 500 big bones instead of dragon bones and I just learned from the experience and moved on.
If you’re trade scammed, consider it a positive learning experience. You essentially just grew as a player since I’m sure you won’t be as careless from now onward.
Yes, scamming (even attempting) can be against the rules, and reports are warranted and appreciated as they help us enforce or remove the excessive and truly problematic players.
At the same time, and not to be rude or dismissive about this - but getting scammed is your fault.
You make a choice to accept a trade as much as a scammer makes a choice to attempt to decieve you.
Getting scammed is a pretty authentic part of playing the game for the first time Countless players 20 years ago cut their teeth on the realization of how much (or how little!) to trust players. It is just a video game after all!
At any rate — I’m not excusing the excessive and clearly disruptive behavior of this bad apple. I just wanted to explain a little more about how this sort of thing works right now.
He won’t be a problem anymore.
Thank you for the reports!
