In real life if you do something you think is legal and it changed due to recent legislation it becomes lack of due diligence and its not going to hold up in a court of law and it shouldnt here same logic. I have nothing against this guy but he shouldnt be above anyone because hes a streamer or because hes brought players to the game regardless of non-profit server or not. Also when i saw him in game and confronted him about it he said verbatim… Pazaz said it was ok “cry”
Items in 2004scape have real value and represent real work behind them (unlike OSRS or other RSPS). That’s what makes staking with them fun.
I’m reading everyone’s replies and I feel like I’m missing the actual reason why group chucking should be against the rules. Like people are against it, but I’m not seeing strong arguments as to why. All the arguments basically boil down to “It enables RWT” (which is iffy) and “I don’t like who does it”, vs the fact it’s an authentic part of clans playing the game and that “it’s content” (which is also kind of iffy)
Again my opinion is idc whether it should or shouldnt be a rule and at this point in time its a rule so he should face repercussions period.
Actually it very well might hold up in a court of law if it is a super minor incident. Which this is. There was absolutely 0 harm. This would be equivalent to someone getting a parking ticket because they didn’t realize that free parking expired at a certain time and they went past that time period.
There was no intent of abuse, I think to punish for something that had no negative harm and was not done on purpose would be silly. That’s just my take.
Was there no harm? That is complete speculation. We have no idea his thoughts or intentions maybe he RWT the money who knows what was going on and the only thing we can revert to is that its against the rules.
The staking rules weren’t overly well-communicated. A client banner just went out today recommending players to review the rules so we’ll start rolling out enforcement shortly hereafter.
For better or worse, the staking rules haven’t been the highest-priority item. The duel arena is members’ content in our version so people have only had access for two weeks.
The mod team wasn’t entirely comfortable with quickly switching the rules and bringing the hammer down on day one of members. We opted for “soft enforcement” instead. Give people a chance to get their wiggles out, then clean up afterwards.
The duel arena has been pretty dead aside from Vanc’s streams. We’re not too worried about it. Expect some more communication on the gambling rules with the next newspost. We’ll start handing out temp bans for infractions afterwards.
Yes Vanc got to pool funds on stream. Other players probably did similar things, it’s not the end of the world, but we’re not letting it get out of hand either.
Yeah whatever you guys decide is law i just want the rules to be enforced thanks :]
1 to 1 means 1 to 1. Adding rules to the game that weren’t present in 2004 isn’t authentic. This was added as a preemptive solution to a problem that hasn’t been an issue — and likely never would be, in my opinion. The difficulty of trying to RWT in this manner is extremely high and would be relatively easy to track.
It feels like the moderation team would rather add new rules than actually do their job of moderating. We were all under the impression that a 1 to 1 server like this would mean no major changes to the original game’s rules.

I clicked off lol the guy is an ego trip and ultimately will be the reason Jagex will shut this game down
I feel the opposite to be true. It seems like you have a personal issue with the streamer which clouds any judgement you might have on this matter.
I also almost immediately clicked off the Vanc interview video. The vibes were incredibly rancid on the first like 5 questions so I bounced.
Kick alone is a bad look IMO, even if Twitch doesn’t allow private servers. Inviting gambling and RWT problems advertising on there.
Regardless they’ve made their choice and already enforce rules differently than the Jagex mod team, that is an impossible standard to keep and I would rather see stricter enforcement than end up in bot hell forever like every extant version of Jagex run RS.
I mean by this logic you’d have several dupes in the game right now, you do have to have some form of inauthenticity for the actual public server to work properly, doesn’t mean it’s part of the preservation side of things
I think what you should be worried about it you have people in his comments saying YOU GUYS as staff are ruining the game. This is bigger than what he did.
He’s only pushing his own agenda he is speaking for barely anyone else in the server except the people who make his argument look good.
This whole thing has now made it staff is ruining the game by : Letting your rules get changed and affected by a streamer which means everyone should be able too. Then the other half siding with him because it was authentic to 2004. But if you’re gonna make it authentic to 2004 you can’t actually push bans for multi logging because they actually did not care in anyway about that nor did they enforce it.
Posting a controversial YOUTUBE video that is now painting STAFF to be the problem when this is ONLY a Vancouver thing is going to push new players away. He should not be posting controversial topics to sever the community PUBLICLY . That should be an internal thing on OUR games website. Not for people outside of this game to be playing.
“Mods are ruining the game” has been a meme since launch, that’s just par for the course for online gaming audiences though. Whatever we do we will catch hell for. I’m fine with it, I knew what I was signing up for, none of this bothers me.
I did not watch the video, and we did not change rules for streamers. Everybody has been subject to the same rules and the same discretionary enforcement since launch. If players have a different interpretation, that’s out of my control. If players leave because of that interpretation, so be it.
We will truck on regardless of player count, whether there’s one person online or one thousand
Remember the live server is secondary (a close second, for sure, but secondary nonetheless) to the overall preservation effort. Saving history is more important than anything taking place on the live game. That’s the vision.
Nothing lasts forever and we face far fewer problems on a far smaller scale than Jagex’s servers. Enjoy it while it lasts! There’s nothing happening that’s as awful as out-community naysayers would have you believe.
If you find Vanc distasteful, the easiest and most effective thing for players to do is simply ignore him. By denying him views, clicks, engagement, or outrage, you dispel any illusions of his influence or relevance.
