Games similar to 04scape ( obscure )

Albion have mining, but IT IS NOT SIMILAR TO RS.
Dragon fable is from same generation, but it is not similar to rs.
Darkfall online theorically is similar to rs, but it is very differend game.
Runes of magic have mining/woodcutting etc… but it is just WoW clone and no more.
Ryzom is sandbox mmorpg, but it is not similar at all.

I have filtered games, that are most similar to 04scape. From personal experience. They can not work.

  1. Empires online II. Probably more brutal then 04 itself. Wrong battle decision, and your ‘1 day to 1 years’ resources/troops/estate can vanish in few hours. Tech tree is as much important and hard to achieve as stats.
Layout is more pleasant then rs, even easier to navigate.

  2. Nodiatis.
Steep learning curve. Somehow difficult to travel between cities.
PK status is hard to attain. Problematic getting weapons and xp.

  3. Syrnia.
Probably ‘downgraded runescape’. Very difficult to learn. Visuals are similar.

  4. Minions of mirth.
I dont recommend this game at all, althought models similar to runescape. Check this if you really are out of choises.

  5. Savage DRX
I KNOW IT DOESNT HAVE PERSISTENT GAMEWORLD.
But if you enjoy “choppy grahics” give it a shot.

  6. Glory of fellowland.
    Ultimate ‘side game’.
If you can tolerate browser based game. Espionage-Plunder-Siege.
If you want persistent game world, choose server who is marked as ’ 10/10 palace progress’.

  7. Ashen empires.
This is trash choise, unless you seek similar graphics.

Back in 2007-2010, runescape free2toplay servers had advertisement above game.
They used to advertise game… i dont remember how it is called. But main game website was dominated by dark blue-dark pink and black colors.

Forge of Empires is surprisingly interesting for a browser game! I saw TV commercials for it a while back but thought it was cheesy :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’s more like Age of Empires, but it has a slow grind appeal something like RS. I played maybe 10-40 mins every day for a few months, no real-money spent, and the temporary events are particularly fun!

I’m thinking the VR game A Township Tale might play like RS too with resource gathering and crafting.

I’m thinking about getting into it soon; was looking at different VR RPGS recently and heard Orbus VR shut down, I wasn’t really into Zenith, but heard mostly good things of A Township Tale.

Haven’t heard of any of these besides Albion so I’ll have to check some out.

Tibia and Asheron’s Call come to mind.

Since tou mentioned tibia.
You can check out zezenia online, ultima online. But they are differend games.

I also used to play Fiesta Online, maybe that’s pretty obscure by now. Vindictus/Mabinogi Heroes, less so, but it’s an oddball all the same.

Valhiem is probably the closest i’ve found in skilling, there are definitely large multiplayer private servers now a days too!

Tibia is quite a game. Not anymore in its golden age, but it still has an active and dedicated community to this day.

I loved Valheim for a time, but it’s really meant to be enjoyed with friends, not solo.
