i understand the race and need to be number one but holy smokes guys, we dont bave bots and the community is small. 50k crafting tips, being picky when buying unids off noobs, price gouging, hoarding items. Like i sad its a small community and when the dust settles most people will remember how greasy you were. Merchers are getting wild too, we can literally click on all your posts and see how low you’re buying for and how high you’re selling for, we arent blind.
The competition is and merching is all fine to me. Thats part of it. Only thing bothing me after only starting 3 days ago is that it seems like all the front pagers are hoarding everything. Like i cant even buy full mith but theres people with almost 99 smithing…
They aren’t hoarding. There’s just very little money to be made selling mithril… Why would you spend time making mithril for peanuts when you can make items that aren’t even in shops like rune helms and shields?
There are bots btw but you’ve gotta realize that’s how merching works, you buy low from people and they don’t have to bother selling it themselves lol. In other MMO’s this is a concept known as lowballing.
the dragonstone craft fee is whats bugging me, more wealths and glories would be so amazing for the economy, faster teles, faster bank trips, faster unids, faster resources, row for better chance of certain loot for more keys for more glories. but 50k a pop to craft? it was less a week ago lol. and the poor people buying them are passing on the tip fee on the cost - i dont think thats how tips works. its here for discussion, a lot of it does feel nostalgic to the period but with fresh players starting feeling like holy crap i got no chance, we can help a little more, no?
This is just basic economics. Supply is low, and demand is high, so prices are going to be high. And yes, people who pay the premium are going to want to get their money back when they decide to sell it to someone else. Why would anyone choose to take a loss if people are willing to pay more?
Dude if you have 85 smithing you probably have a stock hold of mith armor from leveling smithing. Im not saying they should drop what they are doing and craft me armor right now. Im saying sell the shit they have in the bank. You straw manned me hard lol
yes its basic economics, but its also a small community mmorpg. I feel a little give and take goes a long way not just take take take. We cant all be in a race to the bottom and expect new players to thrive, there needs to be more balance in my opinion
someone has to be left holding the bag at some point
I think the part you’re not considering is how long it would take to find buyers for that many sets of mithril armor. Way faster to sell to shops or alch them. They can also then focus on producing the highest profit per bar by making only platebodies once they get to that level, so they won’t even have made that many full sets. And even if they aren’t alching, it is still more profitable to make the items you can’t get in shops such as shields.
Also, how do you think they made the cash to keep leveling smithing? Smithing doesn’t make money unless you sell. Why would they hoard their inventory while prices fall due to competition?
My point is that you are making assumptions about how people got to high smithing levels, and I don’t think you have the evidence to back up those assumptions.
I very much doubt that the people who grinded to 80 crafting to be able to make glories did it so they could sell them to noobs at a loss out of the goodness of their hearts. It is always the people who have not put in the time who cry foul at economics for not handing them what they want. Beggars can’t be choosers.
Who’s begging? They’ve had their time lol, more people are now getting crafting with members options and the first few weeks was all profit for anyone over 60, they aren’t hurting so what are you on. First it was 25k then 40k now 50k to craft a glory, there’s supply and demand and there’s taking advantage. They could have easily bought up all the d stones and set a price instead of this Wild West we have going on. I’ve done my share of grinds, I don’t beg but I also won’t play this rat race version of 04. Me and few friends self sustain and it’s quite enjoyable. I’m just saying for the health of the game, unleash the glories lol. It will bring out so much resources! But your mind is made up and the rich need to get richer, we get it. But feel free to keep adding to the topic, thats why I put it on the forum to gauge other opinions other then my own
Supply and demand is not just some justification people made up for charging high prices. It is an explanation for economic reality. If, as you imagine, the crafters decided to price fix at a price lower than that which would be set by the current supply and demand, then it would create an opportunity for someone to merch and buy up the entire supply at the low price and resell for the correct market value. If people are willing to pay 50k for a glory, then you can rest assured that the price will rise to meet the demand. Is it taking advantage? Sure. But you are also happy to take advantage when the prices are low. Economics cuts both ways.
If people aren’t willing to pay the high prices (i.e. demand is reduced) then the prices will fall. As more dragonstones enter the market (i.e. supply is increased) then the prices will fall. This is exactly the same thing we saw before the members release with rune scims and kites.
I’m not arguing that the rich should get richer. I’m just saying that your idea of benevolent price fixing is a fantasy that cannot exist so long as there is free trade. But the game is stacked against the crafters in the end, because dragonstones enter the economy faster than they leave. If you want a cheaper glory, all you have to do is wait.
Dude this is a private server not Wall Street. I’m invested in this server but nowhere near to that level. Reading all that I see you agree with me that it is unsustainable, perfect. A glory and a rune scim can’t really be comparable can they? A bis item with teleports vs the pinnacle stepping stone weapon that comes as a monster drop. If this is the route that’s going to be taken every time I can’t wait to see the dragon square shield never be obtainable. It’s way different playing with grown ups then the child versions of ourselves, but some of you guys are taking it to a whole other level of seriousness, the gp doesn’t go with you!
Reject society, embrace self sustenance!
im in a hybrid of that, i can everything but chop my own yews, wc just aint for me lol. ill help feed some families but i aint puttin bentleys in their driveways if you know what i mean. the rat race is too real
Click tree is very difficult I understand, just hit 60 tree clicking yesterday and it was very hard. Still haven’t tried clicking a yew yet, but the promise of a Bentley has me definitely considering it.
This is why I went iron. The beginning economy is complete dog shit gauging low level players for money when they’re supplying the xp. All the merchers and people up charging for crafting suck farts out of butts in their spare time.
i mean 640 for a yew long, im pretty sure we are on the tipping point of them bein un alchable. If you buy iron ores right now, its almost break even to smelt the ores for magic and smith xp. gotta get creative in these times but man oh man, i will never pay someone 50k to craft a piece of jewellery for me. a hill im willing to die on
Our friend there never studied economics before, let alone at an uni. Maybe watched a couple of videos from a random guru on YT and became a “i see supply and demand everywhere” type of guy.
