Extreme punishments & second chances

Hi Lost City community,

I just thought I would make a topic discussing a few topics that have been on my mind lately.

                                     **Bans & Second chances**

Many people have been permanently banned lately with no chance of reform, some of those permanent bans were justified and some permanent bans probably weren’t. Why are the moderator team not giving players the chance of reform? Why are people being banned in game for false reports/misusing the report feature? Why are the punishments on this game so extreme…?

I can understand extreme bug abuse, scamming, RWT & glitching in most cases should lead to a permanent suspension but there are many people out there banned for simple and “moderately” used AHK.

Now, correct me if I am wrong but it seems as though there is no real implementation of soft warnings, temp bans, longer bans/permanent suspensions. People commit an offence and it is escalated straight to a permanent ban with no chance of redemption, second chance or reform whatsoever.

Can the moderator team please introduce temporary bans? 3 day, 7 day, 14 day bans. Soft macroing shouldn’t lead to an automatic permanent ban at the end of the day people DO deserve second chances.

Sorry if there are typos and errors I wrote this in 0.5 seconds.

Thanks for reading.

The mods: we don’t have time to police the game. Rules are rules.
also mods: talking bollocks on discord 24/7, making rules up out of thin air and assuming people are telepathic.

It’s a big reason the server’s in the state it’s in.

Taking the “mod” part of their name way too seriously. I guess perceived power really tickles some people.

Thanks for your post.

I just wanted to say that yesterday alone I handed out 7 or 8 warnings.
Last week I reviewed some bans and mutes and reverted them.

This is just me, mind you. There are plenty of other staff members doing the same.
We do in fact warn, and/or revert punishments (or simply reduce punishments).
Plenty of temp bans have been handed out, also.

There are rules that we take very seriously which will more often than not result in permanent action.

We are always trying to improve how we handle rule breaks, however. There’s always room for improvement.

my friend drop traded a rune scim and some cash… is he at risk for a perm ban?

got sent back to ezscape

soft macroing, thats a good one

its not easy, I lack the skill to do Zuk and the hard raid bosses, I think 2004 Runescape is EZscape, no skill required, no impossible bosses or goals. Just good old braindead grind.

OSRS has been ruined by elitism, raids and completionism obsession.

I’m thinking most people don’t have the patience or attention span to 99 most skills without QoL :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s what the community™ wants!

Although I had fun on OSRS without any of that or touching a raid :stuck_out_tongue:

Well what else would you call macroing for an hour or two and getting banned? Especially if that player has been legit for 98% of the time he or she has been playing? As I said, everyone deserves a second chance, that’s just my take though.

Yeah 04 is defo not easy scape lmao 0 qol makes it hardcore by default ngl.

Thanks for your reply Toddwick.

I am thankful to know that you and and some of your fellow mods are indeed handing out temp bans, not only that but also reverting punishments players have received which is great news.

I did read a post of Branon saying that macroing is a one strike rule that did indeed worry me to be fair.

Most of the player base are thankful for the work you guys do and once again, thanks for your post.

I’d call that a macroing major. Turns out you only have to break the rules for a minute to get caught and get in trouble. Would love to use your “just an hour or two” defense to go on a shopping spree sometime, talk about a discount!

Why would you try and compare real life crimes to video game botting?
Even in real life for many crimes you are given cautions and warnings, don’t bring up real life.

And this crime holds a 1 strike automatic lifetime ban, not a caution or a warning.

This is an interesting perspective, I hadn’t thought of it this way before.

The issue I have here is that while OSRS does have challenging endgame bosses, everything else has been watered down in comparison.

Between new and better methods/areas/minigames, mobile/afk skilling, increased quest xp rewards, RuneLite plugins, and the like, the only thing you have left in OSRS that’s “hard” is PvP and endgame PvM.

And really, the endgame PvM is only mechanically difficult. With Death’s Office being so forgiving on OSRS, it’s still nearly impossible to experience actual consequences for failure.

Gone are the days of setbacks and rebuilds. Gone are the days of brutal death mechanics. This is what I look for when I consider what’s easyscape or what’s not. How likely is it that the game will let you fail and that you will incur materially damaging consequences to your account as a result?

In 2004, this is a core component. The game has a chance to randomly grief you every 5 minutes (literally!) via random events. Dangerous randoms are kind of arbitrary but the example extends to every activity in the game (questing, bossing, skilling, trading).

With Death’s Office in OSRS, it is nearly impossible to ever experience a setback or negative consequence. You’d have to lose a UIM deathpile, wipe a deathbank, die risking in the wilderness, or somehow manage to die as a non-iron with several hundred million gp worth of unprotected items.

That might sound like a fair amount of ways to lose progress but 99% of players will never fall through any of those cracks. Personally I don’t like feeling forced to play as UIM in order to get my sense of cause-and-effect back.

Wow, just realized how off-topic this was for this thread. Whoops! I ain’t mad about it though.

It typically is (or at least that’s the public perception we like to maintain). That’s not to say punishments can’t be overturned on appeal!

I’m HCIM and the Zulrah req for Crystal Halberd/diary is some bs :stuck_out_tongue: (there’s no way realistically it’s expected to be able to kill Zulrah first-time no deaths under the allowed HCIM setting; along with making no sense why a stick with Crystal involves a toxic snake)
