Just died and lost all of my stuff because the timer is set to 2 minutes for when I can collect my loot. Absolutely ridiculous, I’ve played for the last 3 months, like what’s the point in a two minute timer? Even if that’s how it was in 2004, there are some things that have been improved upon. I’ve enjoyed this game while I’ve been here, I enjoy the concept of being original 2004 style RuneScape, but this is where I gotta draw the line. I’ve made many friends here, and I’m gonna miss them, good luck and have fun to all of you!
I’m sorry to hear this, and am sad to see you go. We will be here if you change your mind in the future.
To anyone else who may read this thread – keep in mind that this is a preservation-first project! 2004 was much more dangerous time (deaths, random events, etc.) than modern RS.
The point of it was to the player fear dying.
Sorry but did it took you that long to realize a game from 2004 that’s constantly being changed till this day, both for creative vision or for satisfaying the playbase or investors is different from what it is now? Perhaps doing some beforehand reading would have saved you from that pain.
Preservation and authenticity are the most important factors when it comes to the Lost City Project, getting as close as possible through research and information. Many of the developers have spent time, money and effort to make it as close as they can.
For the live server, Pazaz has made a very few changes have altered some options due to the current day technology and audience we are working with, especially when it comes to moderation. Besides this, his goal has always been to keep it just like it was in that time period.
We are sorry to hear about your experience, and we understand it can be a challenging and frustrating part of this version. We hope that with time and our incredible volunteers, the game will continue to move forward, and at some point, hopefully be closer to what Runescape you’re wanting.
There are also several other RSPS options that have splintered off of Pazaz and Developers work- we even have a few advertised on these forums. Feel free to take a look through those and see if maybe that is more of what you’d like.
Thanks for playing, and we hope that you enjoyed your time here.
That was just the game design. Dying actually meant something instead of just “pay this fee and get your items back.” It sucks when it happens to you, but it’s the brutal reality of RuneScape back then. IMO, players should feel some threat from dying outside of PvP scenarios. It adds a more exciting, albeit challenging, aspect to the game.
Some players account for this by either bringing minimal gear, having a friend who can pick up their items, or by having a strategy to get back to the location in time (impossible for some areas). It’ll definitely get more interesting as PvM updates are released in the future.
Just don’t die. Skill issue.
Seriously, asking “what’s the point?” as if the game loses all meaning just because it punishes you for losing. The point is to play the game well, or expect setbacks.
Talking tough on an mmo forum doesn’t actually make you tough. Mommy issue.
It sucks, but i do hope you’ll try again once you have fully accepted the setback. The game is so much fun, you just gotta be cautious more.
On the other hand - one of my core memories was back in '05 when someone poisoned ran with low hp to the bank, and he died within two tiles from the bank. I picked up his rune boots, which were 200k at the time and his dragon platelegs. Which were a lot aswell, think even 1M. The downside may be a positive thing aswell.
Hope to see you have a try again on playing!
Thank you for the positive feedback, I was upset when I wrote this post and still sore from the loss.
Yeah, i totally understand! Hope to see you in-game.
Your comment will be the reason I will come back, players like you and Hydrock is what makes this game better than the rest. Thank you again, and God Bless
Don’t give up - I know the feeling as I lost my whole bank to a genie - you just have to get back to the grind, or find some different goals. Hopefully it won’t take you long to build back up.
Sorry to hear what happened
Awesome! You can add me, I can give you something to start with
being a crybaby on the forums doesnt actually make you a crybaby, daddy issues? lol wut. we really do need a sub section for the soft osrs/rs3 players and the botters.
It took 6 days to come out of mom’s basement to write this absolute banger on my now old post. I ain’t even mad, I’m proud of you for breaking the chains. Bravo sir
As someone who picked up a >1m drop off a guy in fire giants today, I was shocked to see his stuff drop on the floor immediately after death. I was unaware of the behavior and actually hope this is changed, to allow for someone to at least run back to it. Not a pvp death, not a pvp-style loot drop!! Preservation, I get it, but hopefully we hit that update soon lol
That’s an OSRS change I’m afraid, Hunk. It was a bit harsh back in these days! That’s why gravestones were huge in 2009
Git gud son Ngl I crashed out for a while after dying doing a clue that took me hours to get
I’ve hopped in random games on Diablo 2, left town, and got owned with large gold stacks along with providing ear trophies
I dislike separate PvE and PvP mechanics and it feels like lazy design: You have fun skills that decimate NPCs in PvE, that then need nerfed to the ground during PvP because it’s not fun when they’re used against you as a player
0 HP from a player vs 0 HP from a Fire giant is the same mechanic, and in both cases you likely don’t want your HP reaching 0. I feel it was implemented in fairness as-is with no PvE/PvP difference on that basis, and changed later to a PvE timeout because of making things easier QoL, or a semi-lazy “fix” to server-side connectivity.
What, does Saradomin see your death, cast something, and magically protect your items as they scatter when you fall, for exactly 2 mins world-time?
