Cyanwarrior4's Semi-Ironman Adventure

Awesome! I took the liberty of looking up your stats and it seems like you completed legends quest or close to it. Great job especially as a pure ironman. I actually think you have what it takes to get a glory, however you need to have a build that specializes in combat and mining specifically; there is no getting 80 crafting passively.

Since you do infact have goldsmithing gauntlets which is optimal for crafting grind. I could tell you exactly what to do because I’m going down a similar path.

I recommend killing choas dwarves in the wildy dungeon before the update. You have decent melee and ranged; they drop law runes and muddy keys to get rubies from.
You can also buy laws from mage bank if you have the gp.

Since spawns are bad you range them from a distance with a bow then when they are close you swap to melee. This monster gives the most smith xp/kill. You absolutely need laws for crafting grind; I have 2 methods I’ll post them early tomorrow to help you out!

Day 4 Prepping for Blue Dragons

Current Trades:
Items Bought: Nature Talisman, Glory x3, Tooth Half Key
Items Sold: None

I need a strategy for blue dragons, initially when I started this account I was an rcer. It interested me since I lamped 1-50 rc I did not train it in f2p osrs. Training magic wasnt a problem for me but after fire striking and failing to obtain a Nature Talisman I pivoted over to mining and smithing. I also skipped thieving training since I was waiting for the update. In hindsight I should have trained it even with the delay the gp would have been helpful. But hey we all make mistakes!

I failed to obtain a Nature Talisman so I caved in and bought one knowing I made a mistake in my build. So I prepped my agility level for a long rc grind.

Lacking a rune axe for a woodcutting path, fishing wouldnt be helpful to me, and not wanting to train thieving I crafted 30k natures and superheated to 80 magic and smithing

The money and darts from mining and smithing was helpful but the money started to dwindle as I bought key items such as laws and feathers for fletching and fishing.

I needed to test something was the bottleneck truly gp or would actually obtaining the death runes be the problem?

Only 7 minutes spent to buy 600 deaths runes and they are cheaper than I expected! The bottle neck is gp this is good actually!

7k Iron bars left and yes the rest of my bank is a bit unorganized but ill deal with that later; I just find doing it tedious.

I dont have the emeralds for 88 smithing and it will take at least another month! But I do still have natures from my rc grind enough for 85 smithing. If I do that I will be forced to make rune axes instead of rune swords. I could get 66 crafting to mitigate the cost but I’m not confident ill finish on time I did not build for it.

Do I get 66 crafting or 85 smithing? I must pick one both have pros and cons. With 66 crafting I could make blue vambraces and sell those off to the general store but I would have to make other sellables to make hoping worth it resulting in me smithing anyway. With 85 smithing I can get it within a reasonable timeframe since I built for it, but I have to make suboptimal rune axes. However I get more useful magic xp for the wildy, and I know I can just obtain more rune ores from my tests earlier.

But wait a minute I know that rng can be a fickle creature yesterday I walked out with nothing but next time I can walk out with everything. It was then I made up my mind I told myself I wouldn’t make anymore 3 bar items since it slows smithing but its my quickest path to some gp.

So I smithed away!

Ok one more try I am not ready to give up just yet!

Now I just need gold and silver, but this is perfect I can make a gold/silver crafting guide!

Use cats to get 100 death runes every few hours. You should be ranging dragons. Not maging them. If you are gonna mage I’d use chaos gauntlets not death runes.

First and foremost thank you for taking the time to read my adventures! Call me crazy but I am glad you said that; you are 100% correct at least from an overall perspective.

Tbh I dont want to be bothered with cats to get like 18k worth of death rune every 3 hours; its optimal but unfun for me.
I don’t have chaos gauntlets I picked goldsmithing so yeah…
I have a decent ranged level but my gear is severely lacking I need to get to the point I can range blues.
I’ll go over everything in more detail later!

Started doing cats to save up the 14,400 needed for a Fury down the road. About 1/3rd of the way there.

I’m 85 range. 70-85 all at blues. If you don’t want to buy black d’hide you can get everything but vambs from clues. But 70 range is more than enough.

For the cats if you use a ball of wool you don’t have to stroke them for about an hour. And I just feed them at a bank between trips.

Then Everytime I go to buy a new one I buy 5 battlestaves from Varrock.

Pretty efficient strategy. :stuck_out_tongue:

I promised I would make a guide so here it is! I’ll note that both methods require laws so I had to stack them slowly to prepare! I have two methods for the crafting guild so I’ll start with the first one!

Silver/Gold Method
Requirements:
40 Mining
40 Crafting
Law Runes - Ironmen plan accordingly!
Recommended:
60+ Mining
44+ Runecrafting
XP/HR - Bear in mind this was tested with 85 mining!
9560 Mining XP
6260 Smithing XP - Goldsmithing Gauntlets
4800 Crafting XP (2640+ banked via gold bars)
960 Runecrafting XP (optional)

Gear:

Glory obviously for more gems, water staff for teleports and goldsmithing gauntlets if you have them for extra smithing xp. If you don’t have these I recommend the 2nd method instead!

Inventory:

Air Talisman and ess are optional especially if you dont have a high rc level just bear in mind you will have to bring your own air runes or swap out the water staff for an air one.

Start at falador east bank as shown in the screenshot above and make your way to the air altar.

Make your way to the crafting guild and start mining the silver rocks first since they mine faster than gold. Both rocks respawn with in 2 minutes; so your laps have to be 2 minutes or less for this to be worth it.

Personally since I have a high mining level I always have downtime after completing a lap.

If you wish to be efficient use a stopwatch after you mine the first silver rock

How fast you complete a lap is random so if there is more than 45 seconds left you can hop worlds otherwise stay put. Personally I just afk its much easier to do since you have to do this for many hours and its possible you’ll hop into a world with somebody already mining.

Teleport back to falador and smelt your silver and gold

I bring a mould to make the silver symbols as I go since they are a pain to make. Also I swap between the saradomin and zamorak symbols to have extra items to sell to the general store! Rinse and repeat to start a new lap.

This method was the fastest method to obtain crafting xp in f2p osrs assuming you dont get it passively from other methods such as gems or hides in 04. Silver Rocks are unique that mining level heavily influences how quickly they mine. So at higher mining levels they mine extremely fast.

Taken from osrs wiki but I’m sure its the same in 04.

Pure Silver Hopping Method
Requirements:
60 Mining - Yes higher mining required
40 Crafting
Law Runes - Ironman plan accordingly!
Recommended:
80+ Mining 90+ is ideal and optimal but quite steep
72+ Agility - Before agility update (I dont even have this)
*Should probably utilize stalls if your agility is lower
44+ Runecrafting
XP/HR - Was tested with 85 Mining and 54 Agility
*I ran out of energy several times I’ll revisit after the update
7360 Mining XP
2520 Smithing XP
9150 Crafting XP
960 Runecrafting XP (optional)

Gear:

Glory for more gems and water staff for teleports; simple.

Inventory:

Same as before nothing new here

Start at falador east bank as shown and make your way to the air altar just like before.

Make your way to the crafting guild and focus on mining the silver

Once all 6 rocks are mined hop worlds typically I keep hopping between the same two worlds to reduce the chance of hopping to a another players world.

I will note this is what makes this method so slow; if these timers are ever reduced this method will become much faster! However, you will likely require more worlds due to slow rock respawn timers.

There will be an extra silver rock if you decide to get the passive rc xp; perhaps maybe a good idea to forgo the rc xp in favor of more crafting. Personally I can use the air runes.

Smelt and make everything you will need the energy regen!

I will note that because you spend so much time world hopping you don’t regain as much energy as the previous method.

Conclusion:
I will have to retest this method in the near future the rates are not accurate.
I have more to say if you wish to get glories as an ironman you need a build that allows you to do this method its mandatory! Otherwise you either buy them from players or you treat crafting as a passive skill like prayer but you’re not getting 80 lets be real here.

Day 5 Prepping for Blue Dragons 2

Current Trades:
Items Bought: Nature Talisman, Glory x3, Tooth Half Key
Items Sold: None

I mainly spent the day grinding and testing for the guides I posted above earlier.so its a pretty short post.

Off to the crafting guild we go!

Seriously? Where were you when I needed you!
I could have avoided trading for that tooth half!

What an awesome community!

Results of training!

Mostly finished just need more silver

Looks like this will go into a 2nd day; gosh this method is a tad bit slow ngl.

Wow! Key half from a casket is quite blessed. I managed to get my first full key from killing fire giants, going to be a ring of wealth soon!
You’ve definitely put a lot into your account, the runecrafting and mining+smithing grind is a long one

Thanks for the guides as well, I will likely try the gold+silver method in the future as it gives a nice spread of xp in different skills!

Have you ever considered superheating mithril in the mining guild? It might not be the fastest xp, but I imagine if you make some mithril arrows from it, you’ll get a decent chunk of fletching xp in the end, and the arrows will be handy making ranging things a bit better… considering trying that in the future!

I feel like the semi-ironman mode is something we’re all currently more or less involuntarily experiencing

Really good job on your journey so far, I love reading and following threads like this, there’s something quite nice about follow a path from its early stage and seeing where it goes. :stuck_out_tongue: Looking forward to keeping up with your adventures :crown:

Yeah it took a ton of time I was an rcer and pivoted into mining/smithing via superheating. I did get 70 in mining/smithing when I got stuck without a nature talisman, but I HATED using the furnace especially after doing 93 smithing in f2p osrs it felt so awkward.

I tend to make iron darts for extra fletching xp, since eventually once your ranged level gets high enough you’ll want to dart everything to avoid having to buy arrows. Superheating mithril arrows still has its uses the main one that comes to mind is ranging chaos dwarves. You get a ton of mithril bars from them via muddy key and drops. So you can sustain your arrows there without wasting your adamant ones. They also give the most smith xp per kill for any monster. Honestly it all depends on your goals I know its unlikely you have a ton of gp to spend on arrows since youre an ironman like me; my solution was to just make iron darts.

Thanks for reading! I also plan on making more guides to share my knowledge with you guys!

Day 6 Prepping for Blue Dragons 3

Current Trades:
Items Bought: Nature Talisman, Glory x3, Tooth Half Key
Items Sold: None

Yet another day of grinding the crafting guild silver edition!

I opted to make sapphire amulets just so I would have extra gp for the blue dragon lottery

Wow gems give quite a bit of crafting xp especially if you make jewelry; probably the most efficient use of gold!

Finally completed making everything to sell to the general store

A bit shaky after getting rid of those sapphire amulets I am only getting 9k per hop with 3 bar iron items.

Going to have to rely on another money maker soon.

Probably the most gp I have had ever! Well I am all set for the blue dragon lottery, hopefully all goes well!

Day 7 Blue Dragon Lottery Returns

Current Trades:
Items Bought: Nature Talisman, Glory x3, Tooth Half Key
Items Sold: None.

I took the advice of a wise man and got myself a new pet!

I got some more death runes to prepare for my upcoming grind!

But wait a minute my cat disappeared!

To any mods that may be reading this I had my cat out in a f2p world while hopping at aubury. Is this a bug or intended behavior of 04?

Looks like it was meant to be I basically got a full crystal key from randoms!

Before I enter the blue dragon lottery once more I wanted to explain my situation; this is the ranged gear that I currently have (the bow is willow)

All I have basically to work with is darts there is no way I can effectively range either hellhounds or blue dragons.
Blue dragons are the smarter option because even if I fail to get a clue I still get crafting and prayer.

So I only have magic to rely on and its true chaos gauntlets would be the optimal pick to reduce the cost.

To make a good analogy:

Yeah I did not pick the right gauntlets for the job but that doesn’t mean I cannot win; it means it will be a bit harder.

There were three ways to solve this problem:
88 smithing - make rune swords to absorb the cost
66 crafting - make blue vambs to reduce the cost
74 runecrafting - do double chaos runes with gauntlets and do this for free. (would be 1.1k/hr after maze memorization)
*I afk mine ess all the time so that would be basically 0 time

That essentially is what 04 is a series of choices since its not realistic for you to have all 3. Unless you spend crazy amounts of time or get assistance for other players.

I picked goldsmithing gauntlets so basically 88 smithing the difficult path. But this post is already getting a bit long on to the lottery! (I’ll talk about why I made my choice later)

Another useful defense level.

Wait is this real I got a clue scroll finally!!!

Oh perfect it would seem luck was on my side looks like I get some free rune ore!

^.^

Wait is that?? YES!

OMG shoutout to Tranquil thanks for your fortune!

Only took 2 clues what insane luck!

Looking good!

Spoils of war! Victory!!!

Now off to prepare for the ranged grind!

Cool update! Unfortunately you’ll have to either stick with blue vambs when you get 65 (poison chalice can boost crafting+1) or do another trade. Can’t wait for next post.

sick guthix platebody pull

Day 8 Ranged Preparations

Current Trades:
Items Bought: Nature Talisman, Glory x3, Tooth Half Key
Items Sold: None

Alright lets go train ranged.. except I remember why I kept those iron bars! I was planning to make knives. Oops.

I make a mistake in my mining build I haven’t been mining silver, that’s why my crafting is low.

My current method of mining/smithing is heavily dependent on emeralds since I use ring of dueling to fire rc then get to this mine. By mining silver I need more emeralds which is a problem!

If I focus on smithing I need 58 more emeralds however if I add in silver now I need 92 more emeralds! Anyway guess I’ll figure this out after the 12th.

Much needed emerald delivery we REALLY need these now!

After finding out I’ll be stuck with my green vambs until I maybe get 65 crafting… I had to get creative…

Need green dragon hides but don’t have the stats to fend off pkers? Tired of getting harassed? Well step right up to the cyanwarrior4 foolproof method!
Step 1: Gather these!

Step 2: Make these!

Step 3: Get these robes and flowers

!

Step 4: Dont forget your best ranged gear!

Get within melee range of your foe, those pkers cannot attack you when you’re in combat. When you see one switch to your monk robes and flowers then x log.

…DIE FOUL BEAST (Pretty Please? I gotta get the hell out of here!)

Be sure to keep your health up! Don’t forget about your prayer there is no bar like in osrs!

Yeah watch those hides stack up! (almost almost I will be free soon!)

A pker logged in and just left me alone. I never clicked a glory so fast in my life…

I’m joking, seriously don’t do this unless you’re desperate like I am. The spawns are a bit apart and pkers can attack you between kills!

Day 8 Ranged Preparations (continued)

Anyway moving on! I tested wildy fire giants like I wanted.

Does this safe spot work?

Outside of the gate perhaps?

Looks like I’m going to have to lose aggro but I take a ton of damage before then. I’m not a fisherman but will figure this out later!

To regular fire giants I go!

Ehh somewhat decent..

I like this spot the best =)

I still take a bit of damage but if I stand by the door it helps stall out the aggro timer.

Much needed emeralds and a rune scim for melee training!

For rangers that hate mining/smithing you can smith your iron knives/darts as you make trips to ensure you don’t make too many!

Oh yeah and buy those adamant arrows too!

Perfect I can swap to my darts now! I’ll explain later!

The ranged grind continues!

This is an “authentic” bug from back in the day and is thus intended behavior  sorry for the loss of your puss!

Keep it up, this is one of the more extensive progress threads for sure.
