Cyanwarrior4's Semi-Ironman Adventure

Many people have been curious about my playstyle so I thought I would post on here and record my progress. I am about three months in so fairly far along. I avoid trading as much as possible. I mainly play this way because I dont enjoy hoarding ehp and like a solid challenge. However as I progressed my account I found 04 to be REALLY challenging as an ironman so I did buy a few items.

Honestly fair play on the purchases, 04 is a different beast. I was a fellow cyan warrior back in the day, the cyan medium hair was also my go-to. Great stats m8!

Thanks for the compliment! Yeah cyan is my favorite color.

I guess I will talk about my current goals since i will try to record my progress daily. I am finishing up all my wildy activities before July 12th when special attacks are released.

There are 4 things that I am concerned about:

  1. Mining Runite in the wildy
  2. Selling to bandit camp general store
  3. Ranging Fire Giants so I can stock up on mage arena
    death runes
  4. Killing Green Dragons

Love seeing progress threads, keep it up!

Day 1: Solving the Runite Ore problem

Current Trades:
Items Bought: Nature Talisman, Glory x3, Tooth Half Key
Items Sold: None.

I have abandoned my Green Dragon Goal for several reasons. Firstly I don’t have the stats to fend off pkers, and secondly I know many others have the same idea so I dont exactly want to deal with that. I will consider this an endgame goal.

Before going into the wilderness I always try to have a plan of escape. My plan is to escape via kbd lair and wear mage resistant gear; air staff also gives +10 to magic defense.

Also I mine with a glory so I can get extra Emeralds they are quite important as an Ironman I’ll explain later.

I spy a top player!

I need to make sure I buy death runes since this is my only way to obtain them!

Also I did get attacked by a pker toward the end of the day and forgot to take a screenshot was too busy running for my life! However, they did splash alot so I managed to escape. I suspect that the pker saw that rune rocks were mined and waited for me to hop. With this information in the future when doing clue scrolls I might be able to get away with just doing one sweep through all the worlds and leaving with extra rune.

Finished the day with 248 rune ores gathered not too bad!

Day 2 Solving the Runite Ore problem

Current Trades:
Items Bought: Nature Talisman, Glory x3, Tooth Half Key
Items Sold: None

I opted to get more runite ore so I would have extra to fall back on incase of an emergency. I don’t want to spend too much time here so this will be my last day.

Round 2 complete with an addy helm this time!

With the information I learned from yesterdays session I took more breaks between hopping worlds for rune. This time there were no pkers as I suspected so small sessions are the way to go!

500 rune ores pretty solid, but I ran out of money to buy more death runes!

For those that are curious since I was asked I can mine around 40-50 rune ores/hr assuming optimal conditions meaning no pkers or competition. I was also able to continuously mine with out any downtime between 20 ore inventories.

Here are the max possible rates based off runite rock respawn timer
60 ores every 72 minutes - wildy
48 ores every 72 minutes - heroes

So I know right off the bat there there is downtime at heroes guild due to the lack of f2p worlds

This is probably why the rocks aren’t mined inside of the guild and I was slow getting here. People get 85 mining and realize that its not quite as good as they hoped. I would only do one pass through the worlds when recharging glories if you decide to mine here.

This problem has been solved since even when specs come out with short sessions I am unlikely to be pked

Why is it fewer ores at heroes if there are two rocks there?

Heroes guild does not exist in f2p worlds so it has less ore than the wildy; and there are two hosted f2p worlds on this server as of writing

watching this space to pick up tips on finishing 85/88 smithing

Semi-ironman is definitely a nice way to enjoy 04scape I think.
I’m doing more of a pure ironman thing, and I can already feel myself giving up on the amulet slot, I got a fair bunch of power amulets from medium clues but just getting crafting past 50 was a huge pain.

I’m probably going to stick to it since I already put a lot of effort in, but after a good amount of time trying 04 I think that buying items off others while opting to not get a bunch of gold off selling inflated goods is a nice balance to strike

Keep it up! You’ve gotten a long way!

very cute account mmm very scrumptious

I will be going over the crafting methods for ironman so definitely stay tuned! However, I’m not qualified to tell you what to do simply because I am unsure of how you built your character. Let me explain I have much to say but first I’ll share something about myself.

I played F2P osrs as a hcim ‘completed it’ since I can literally do all content at max efficiency and never died.
So to say I have done all of the grinds! Well.. except for the members skills!

After playing 04 for a bit the games are quite similar except this one lacks qol but feels much more complete.

I feel alot of people quit because they dont have the right mindset about how to approach the game. It’s not their fault the Gowers could have done a better job communicating how they wanted their game to be played.

I will say this 04 was not designed for you to max, get 99s, or to get high skills quickly. Otherwise it might as well be a single player game. You can get all high skills but bear in mind it will likely take you around year to year and a half. I don’t want to sound rude but if you have it you’re getting a ton of resources from players; its not something everyone can do.

It’s much like irl can one person have every profession? No.
If it becomes easily possible then everything becomes optimized and only one path to victory; just look at osrs.
Here there are multiple ways to play based on which skills you picked to focus on or master. Efficiency is based on the path you choose rather then some predefined ehp methods.

But back to my original point based on your build it might be very worth it for you the bite the bullet and buy glories or just stay tuned and ill show you how to do crafting.

You hit the nail on the head: the intention behind the game was not ever for any one player to be able to master or complete every aspect of it. I think OSRS has suffered as a result of that becoming an expectation. What makes 04 shine and makes it feel like a real community MMO is that it takes a long time to master nearly any skill, and as a result people must turn to trading to sell the things they’re good at producing and buy the things they’re not. (or they plan ironman style and things just take a long time)

Only a small percentage of players who are very dedicated and/or play huge hours will ever come anywhere near maxing out on this version of RS, so for the majority the sensible approach is to specialize in the parts of the game you enjoy the most.

Day 3 The Blue Dragon Lottery

Current Trades:
Items Bought: Nature Talisman, Glory x3, Tooth Half Key
Items Sold: None

Firstly I need to take advantage of the wildy general store since with specs it will be much easier me for to die. It is in multi so a group of pkers can gang up on you and kill you quickly!
However I need more silver to liquidate my junk items.

So I went to mine some silver and gold

This is the best method to obtain both obviously but ill go over this in more detail later.

I typically smelt the silver as I go and keep the gold mainly because with silver you have to click one by one but with gold you can afk.

I noticed I had a bunch of sapphires I wasn’t
using so I decided to make some extra jewelry

I made some things for the future before I forget since I’ll likely be using these for more crafting xp!

One of many more levels I need to obtain!

For the general store method I hop worlds and sell 10 items max. By the time you return to the world you started on the shop will be cleared. You can do around 60 hops an hour more or less depending on how many items you have to sell. I try to go 600k/hr to make it quick and worth my while so 10k gp per hop.

Gear is as follows mage resistant so I dont get snared; I know you can insta tele with the glory but I bring an emergency teleport just in case a pker has knives/darts. I can just run down to level 20.

Moving forward after July 12th I will use this strategy at ardounge general store and just take the loss since multi in the wilderness can be very dangerous.

Don’t forget my favorite food pizza!

Now were talking!

So the Fire Giant problem is all the remains, I will be ranging them so I need black d hide. Time to hunt for clues!

I decided on blue dragons instead of hellhounds since I can get crafting and prayer xp. Ranging hellhounds isn’t an option since the best bow I can use is a willow shortbow and darts are inaccurate.

I tried to buy death runes as I go but I wasn’t able to sustain probably going to have to buy them in advance.

Decent levels along the way

Defensive casting really helps me get levels for wildy survival!

But unfortunately I failed to obtain a clue scroll…

I was able to kill 70 blue dragons per 1k death runes I used
so assuming death runes are 180 each. It costs me roughly 330k per clue scroll assuming I go on rate. But I walked out with nothing nooooooooooo! So upset.

Going to have to figure this out…

Or, as I like to call it, the difference between a proper MMO and degeneracy.

Awesome, I haven’t really tried holy symbols for crafting. So far, most of my crafting xp has come from mining gem rocks, cutting and making jewelry of what I got there.
I got the goldsmith gauntlets from family crest so I figured I’d knock some smithing out with it at the same time.

As for buying the glories, I might end up doing that, but also part of what I’m doing is accepting that I’m fine without a glory and getting it when I get there

I would really advise hellhounds for getting your ranged gear, I know it’s not the most effective but I managed just fine with a yew shortbow and green dhide.
MSB and black dhide is common enough so it shouldn’t take too long to get most of the range pieces
