"Clans", "Unions" and "Firms"

04 have already some clans as back in the day and with accordance with the rules, I believe.
Nonethless, a different kind of social group inside the server and which maybe few know about is both players who, organized or not, alleged mentioning participation in “firms” and “unions”, as I saw sometimes at the market webpage and one or two times personally.
Now, I don’t have information about they exact existence back in 2004, neither in OSRS. Some “firms” appears to influence economic prices, saying following a “thumb rule” with skillers and merchers. For example, those who can not change the resources prices, even when a good bargain exists for then, under pressure of inside peers.
Are they existence and/or influence against the rules? Can player recruitment, “jobs offers” and price strategies be justified as the game state current is?

The goal of Lost City is to recreate the game of RuneScape as it existed historically. It is not a goal of the project to direct or enforce behavior to be similar to historical behavior. If that were the case, the level of optimized gameplay we are seeing would have to be forbidden, because real 2004 players were noobs by today’s standards.

RuneScape (in 2004) has free trade. The mods are not going to step in to prevent price fixing, merching, or other types of market gamesmanship just because they feel like it’s not authentic to how people played back in the day.

There are three things I believe you got me wrong.
First, even if it’s historical accurate, you still got to bite the bullet. For instance, the bans we see today are impossible to be exactly as in the past.
Second, I’m not asking for reports, bans or anything, just wrapping my mind around what I’m seeing, trying to understanding a behavior. I don’t think it’s needed nor I endorse talking to others what they can or cannot do. Just want to know if the rules allow it. I like the optimization and believe it’s a nice thing to exist.
Third, being historical accurate is not an excuse to be permissive with anything, irl or inside the server. When people join in, you have both legal and moral obligations.

The rules are available on the main site as well as in the in-game report function. Which rule do you think this would violate?

There is nothing illegal or immoral about allowing organized trade in a video game.

I don’t want to be rude but you use too much words like “trade”, “free trading” and others frequently to the point of loosing meaning and adding nothing to the discussion. I’m sure you’ve been following topics about rules in the past weeks. I so, you noticed the common fact that rules are, even the simple ones, complex “objects” to interpret, with consequences not obvious in short and long runs. See for instance topics about things as AHK, transfering items between brothers andd so forth.
Also, the developers follows authenticy from a software standpoint beyond anything. That there are people playing they game is another matter. The rules then chance with certain frequency, see the recent text about AHK and similar softwares.
About illegal or immoral about allowing organized trade in a video game, the topic asked about what they are, how they work and if they follow the rules when influencing player to keep certain prices inside the market. Can you say something about these matters?
