I basically have retained no knowledge of rs from 21 years ago, and I was wondering how to go about cooking things quickly near a bank. Is there somewhere with a cooking range close by or do I have to make my own fires
I took a look at the code and this is my understanding. Devs, please correct me if I’m wrong.
Foods have different sets of success rates. In order from lowest to highest:
Not all foods have all of these different success rates. This means for some foods fire vs range makes no difference, or range vs cook-o-matic, or gauntlets.

Gauntlets only affect lobsters, swordfish and shark. Cooking with gauntlets has a fixed success rate that does not change based on fire vs range, so if you are cooking one of those 3 foods with gauntlets, cooking on a fire close to a bank is most efficient. I think Draynor bank is a good spot for that.
If you want to use a range, Catherby is the closest to a bank. You might want to consider whether the increased cook rate is worth the lost time running to the range vs lighting a fire though.
If you plan to catch your own fish at the fishing guild, many people will cook it on the range there after each invent.

Catherby has a range directly next to the bank, also the bank in the fishing guild has 6-tiles close to the door where you can light a fire INSIDE of the bank.
