I don’t disagree with you guys on that at all honestly, i’ve said multiple times I know the merchers are gonna hoard them. I think everyone know that’s what will happen to be honest with you lol
I’m just an og player giving my opinion on stuff man and sometimes I come across a bit aggressive but I truly mean well brothers and sister I promise I do.
To me it really doesnt matter that much but I just wanted to give some historical data point’s as clean as I can remember them.
I will add into the mix you know it being a one time event, you should try to get the balance right, you don’t want too many or too little but if the server does end up blowing up again and we get a crazy high player count, it’s hard to predict how many is the perfect sweet spot Long term.
People that have rares want there to be fewer, people without them want more, its obvious bias on both sides but you do have to drown out the voices and just decide how many of each rare you want long term. How many masks, how many santas, how many of each color hat. Balance it accordingly and decide on the number you want. The player base is going to be biased and you honestly shouldn’t really even listen to us.
Okay brother.
I just don’t understand why you are using numbers like ‘50% of the player base had a rare in 2004.’ Which is crazy and definitely not even close to the truth. And now you’re using 5% when Pazaz gave us the data point of 5.5% half-way through the event. Pazaz also said by the end of the event it’ll be higher than 12%. Which is already higher than the actual percentage of the player base who owned rares in 2004. Imagine we get 20% because of the complainers who often times are the same people complaining about the slow pace of updates who indirectly want to push us to OSRS lite.
For me I’ve reached most the goal’s I planned on anyways. I was going to go for 99 mining and 99 smithing, but i just burnt out and lost motivation mostly.
Maybe I will pick it back up later but for now my plans are really to just play some Harcore PoE2 with a bunch of my friends and a few twitch streamers, So i’m pretty entrenched on the sidelines and frankly don’t really give a crap.
I still hope the best for the server and hope all the player’s have fun playing it. I’ll probably check back in more active for slayer but we’ll see how I feel. It’s not that I am “too cool” lol
I’m not going to rage bang my keyboard and have a keyboard warrior contest with you but I wasn’t talking about Pazaz, I’ve heard people throwing around a ton of numbers. I’ve heard 5% i’ve heard 10%. The fact there is 20 different number’s thrown around is probably because a lot of the “players” at the time we’re really just Rune ess and flax picking bots, so I don’t think anyone can get accurate data.
So before you can even discredit anyone you’re going to have to comb threw and decide how many player’s we’re actual players and how many are bots. Good luck.
Yup those darn complainers they Took R Jerbs!!!
Shame on Pazaz, he only listen’s to those damn complainers. Not looking at the server data and forming his own logical opinion, LMAO
Damn all of us Homeless and unemployed complainers, who the hell gave us all computer’s and internet. This should be illegal. I’m so happy Bell accepted food stamps so I can play runescape
i work the weekend and dont get to play much during the event this puts me at a big disadvantage to receive a rare. i would have liked to saw two random unannounced days weekly instead of set days. i fell like this would have caused people to play regularly and jump on whenever they had the time. to me its sad to see 80 and 100 player counts during the week then 300+ during the event.
I’m looking forward to seeing how the prices will develop over time, because as others have mentioned, we can’t go back in time and simply not-know how prices of discontinued rares will only go one way - up.
I suspect we’ll also see many people who could liquidate their banks to afford a rare but simply choose not to due to how much time, energy, and effort resources take to acquire. Puttting e.g. 100m in a partyhat vs. investing those 100m in gear, supplies, resources and more to be able to advance your skills, gear up to take on the content you’re interested in are just two so incredibly different approaches and game experiences.
I’m looking forward to having that choice of selling everything to be able to afford a rare item. More than anything I think it’ll (hopefully) be crystal clear for me what I want to spend my time on in-game and what I value more.
I didnt even see Slinger posted this reddit post from a JMod in 2004 prices but these seem way more accurate to what I remember when I played in 2004.
I remember masks we’re slightly higher prices than this but seems really close or way more closer to reality and this is a Jagex Mod who had much more insight into the average price of items.
Meanwhile, I have a 100m and crackers/blue/white phats are completely unbuyable. Imagine how bad it’ll be in 2 years. No hope of new players ever, ever, ever getting a phat. No sellers. They’ve all found permanent homes. We need 5x-10x more rares than what is currently planned IMO for sure.
Ill cook on this even further one more time, and I know i’m going to get hated for saying this but I will anyways. After this rant I will walk away and let you guys sort it out. I’m done.
A lot of people think it was a mistake that Jagex gave every single player a Santa hat, and they “wern’t rares” but you know the truth and the secret sauce that actually made the game start snowballing and growing.
What it actually did is made those players life long recurrent players. It made them Love the game. It made them WANT to keep logging in, because they we’re having fun. It made them tell ALL their Friends, to join them and come play the game with them and caused massive spikes in the player count and the average player that played the game.
Which did what? Made those rares even go up further in price and made more people play the game.
And if you cut-off and limit the rares so immensely do you want to know what’s going to happen? You’re going to have a reverse domino effect.
You can already see it happening now. You fill player’s with Haste and Hate, they regret grinding for 40 hours all weekend, they leave with disappointment and regret and a bad taste in their mouth. They are full of anguish and end up quitting the game, and don’t even want to tell their friend to play.
All you’re gonna end up with is 50 active players who all have 5 rares each, and the ironic thing is, you’re greed will cause exactly what you don’t want to happen. Rare’s plummeting in price and nobody even wanting to join or start a new account because they have been placed at such a massive disadvantage they think there is no point in even bothering to progress a new account.
So at the end of the day you end up being you’re own worst enemy and you’re own demise.
