2004Scape on the steam Deck! 🎮

Hey folks

  • This is my fist forum post, thought i’d get stuck in with the community.

I’ve recently started playing on the steamdeck, and it works great!
All you need to do is:

  • Go into desktop mode > launch the webclient & Hit full screen.

The only downside is the odd Botting accusation because typing is an absoloute chore… but steamdeck users will already be aware of this

ps. I tried launching the client via bottles but had no luck but this way works just as well.

Using desktop mode is super smart because you get a sane controller layout by default and don’t need to faff about with getting the launcher AppImage to run inside game mode (I found using the --no-sandbox launch argument was necessary for that)

That’s pretty cool not going to lie!

I am playing with the Chromium browser in ‘gaming mode.’ I first tried using the Linux launcher by Pazaz (GitHub - LostCityRS/Launcher) but couldn’t get it to work in gaming mode. The launcher uses Electron to create an app, which is a really memory- and process-heavy framework (or so I’ve heard). I also noticed some lagging when using it.

I ended up installing Chromium and adding it as a non-Steam game to my library.

I also disabled KDE Wallet. I had an issue where it would pop up a window when I opened Chromium, and because of that, it just showed a black screen (in gaming mode).

Ps. If you’re using the game recording feature on your Steam Deck, I recommend switching to gaming mode. This way, you can prove you’re not macroing and also record if someone else seems suspicious.

That’s a good shout!

Adding Chromium as a non-Steam game sounds like a smart way to get around the launcher issues. —I’ve run into similar hic-ups causing weird behaviour. Appreciate the insight, especially since i’m currently having to exit fullscreen mode any time i want to take a screenshot or type.
