I agree with mostly all of that. I do like using markets for trading and convenience, but it has its flaws. There have been issues over and over of players trying to manipulate prices and posting fake offers. And then there is the issue of a player not being online after you add them to buy/sell. With vwest trading players do bank sells and give players deals. Sadly you dont get that too often with markets. At this point it seems like the markets will stay a part of the game, but im all for a community event once a week to keep trading in vwest alive and keep an integral part of the gameplay experience.
I agree that its mainly been a population issue with bank trading. Thats the main reason I think we should have a weekly trading event on peak hours, to engage the community and keep the nostalgia alive (with or without lostcity.markets). And also to encourage bank sells and price discussions with the player base
w2 vwest was very popular earlier in this server’s life, and let me tell you the prices there were almost always much worse than the marketplace
ppl can always post bank sales to the forums too
The market was created when BigShot saw a need for centralized communication - no one was dedicating their time to merching consistently enough, but there have been moments of life where these social hubs saw sales flowing again ingame.
He saw players organizing offline and asking for price checks in Discord. Players were putting together Google Sheets of prices and sharing those. His marktets site isn’t a replacement for genuine social interaction and certainly people could choose to not use it.
I added it to the client header because players started to use it, not to encourage players to play the game around it, it’s just a resource
good luck on your suggestion and/or organization!
I think Bigshots Market is exactly what the G.E should have been. There was no need for Jagex to involve themselves with our prices.
I agree it is interesting to go a world where everyone is selling stuff but at the same time I am happy I am not forced to do that..
Also, for those saying it is not authentic..forums existed back then and people used them to trade. That is basically what the market is just streamlined…
Im hoping with this thread we can get a weekly event going to get people trading in vwest on fridays. Its fun and nostalgic to encourage player interaction in the game, since thats historically always been a huge part of the RS experience. I understand temporarily shutting markets is a long shot (lol) but im hoping to simply increase player interaction on our peak hours. Thats something that made the rares event so much fun, especially the finale at the end. It was an awesome experience.
It emulates Zybez - which had a lot of its own discussions in the past GE vs Zybez.
I think the GE was a net negative because it removed all player interaction. It came around the time as all their free trade and anti-RWT restrictions, so it makes sense that it killed a big part of the game.
Here’s one discussion from many years ago for you to read: Reddit - The heart of the internet
I agree that the G.E in how it was implemented was not the best.
As far as the price manipulation on Zybez. Just as much would happen in game.
Tell me if anyone remembers this.
You: “Selling Rune Plate 100k”
Manipulator 1: starts spamming near you “Selling Rune Plate 80k”
Manipulator 2: " Hey, Rune Plate is going for 80k why are you selling for 100k? I’ll buy it for 85k cause I don’t like that guy."
Market Manipulation will always be a thing as long as greedy people and open markets exist.
And the G.E didn’t change anything just changed how it was done. Now huge clans just buy out items and then dump them.
So the question is what flavor of greed would you like? =P
Maybe as an event for an hour or two window people meet up and hangout and trade, the server events are always fun to see everyone
Agreed weekly trade events, bank sales would be fun. I think we should organize them once a week as a community.
