interesting theories from the video…I wonder how the 04scape devs feel about losing 04scape or being forced to work at jagex while continuing their preservation efforts

The devs cannot lose 2004scape or be “forced” to work for Jagex over this project. The code behind 2004scape is all original. Jagex has no legal claim to it. The only thing Jagex could arguably claim is the game cache files which contain their proprietary game assets. However, these cache files are readily available from the RuneScape Archive, and Jagex has given their official approval for the archive in the past.
Even if Jagex were to come down with the hammer and shut down the official Lost City server, the code would still be readily available and so would the cache files from the archive, so anyone could still spin up another server if they wanted to.
Pazaz has stated on multiple occasions that the public server we enjoy is a happy bonus on top of the real project which is the preservation of the game. To that end, 2004scape is virtually indestructible.

2mac covered everything I could say 
This project is a side effect of history disappearing. I just wanted this culturally significant game to be around when we’re old. I can rest easy even if I was forced to stop today. Until then I’ll keep pushing along with updates, for the next generation and our older selves.

Nice response, imo…if acquisition was possible 04-06 would be ruined by jagex
