Save character to computer?

I heard people say you can save your character to your computer. I’m a tech noob, so is this

  1. allowed, and if so,
    1. how do I do it?
It’d be great to save it to use in the future just in case! My levels are too high to lose them now!

Hello and welcome to the forum  you can export your character via the security centre on the website: https://2004.lostcity.rs/account/login?redirectUrl=/account

Continue with Discord and then use the “Export a character’s save file” menu at the bottom.

whats the point of saving a character if characters are stored online?

Couple reasons:

If the main server ever goes down, your progress isn’t lost. You can play singleplayer locally, host a server for your friends, or try to get a community server operator to import your data.

If you get banned (god forbid – that’d never happen right?) your progress is not wholesale wiped. You can export your character and take it elsewhere.

I could see other uses too:

  • You could export your progress at different points in time to see interesting snapshots of your character’s progression
  • You could practice difficult bosses or quests on a local server with a copy of your character, risk-free
  • You could test new updates locally before they hit the live server (also risk-free) to help find bugs

You’re only really limited by your imagination

I find this to be the most unusual and respectful feature of Lost City. I have a friend whose account got “permanently” banned, only to find years later that they had unbanned the account, but reset it.

Having the recognition that the time and energy spent on building up a character is not something to be destroyed is remarkable. Jagex would just annihiliate the character if it gets permanently banned, sadly.
