Rare release violates the perservation project!

News Post Over the next 4 months starting with the game update on July 12, every weekend all online players eligible will have an incredibly rare chance to obtain a random rare pre-RS2 item by doing any action ingame. There will a minimum playtime and level requirement.

With this method, if the playerbase ever grows there will not be enough supply for the community, this also violates how they were released on holidays and is not in line with the perservation project.

Rares should only be released on their prospective holidays, with a suitable supply to everyone online at the time, the discontinuation of the rares helps the market and naturally adds rarity.

As shocked as I am to find myself agreeing with you, yeah this isn’t it for how rares should come into the game. Even IF you want to go with the idea of having rare, discontinued, holiday items in the game, turning the way to obtain them into “Play as much as you possibly can every single weekend for months for a chance to get one” isn’t the way to go about it. On the holiday, do a drop, maybe a few across different worlds and time zones, and that’s it. Don’t incentivise unhealthy play by telling people “grind as much as you possibly can during this limited period of time or miss out on the chance to get one forever.”

Moooooom I posted it again

Last thread was posted in the wrong forum, it’s been moved.

Critiquing the method for releasing rares while also being the only person on the server with a partyhat seems a bit rich if I’m being honest  let me guess – something something devalues my partyhat-only account?

No? Did you read my comment about recommending a release method of dropping them to be available to all players rather than “grind as much as you possibly can for months for a chance to get one” or are you just here to grouse?

Why are you so consistently incapable of being respectful or charitable toward other users despite the official forum rules directly requiring you to be? Maybe he just has a different opinion that isn’t related at all to him having a partyhat. You constantly attack the source instead of people’s arguments or points. That is not productive at all, nor does it benefit the discussion in any way.

It’s hard to take your comments seriously when you make your whole persona the Blue P-hat person, a rare item that you also acquired inauthentically, btw

Just having a bit of fun, these threads never amount to anything good so it’s the perfect place to mess around!

Consider also that we don’t know which items are being released :eyes:

The subject matter of this thread pre-empts any possible productive or beneficial discussion. I now declare this to be the designated trolling containment thread. Fire away!

“Hee hee ha ha y u mad”

Thank you, glad to know our moderators are here to prevent any useful discussion.

As much as I also enjoy a bit of trolling, I’d also like to chime in here and say many people back then were not aware of the “rare” items that were put into the game and did not have the foresight of knowing release times, dates, when they’d be allowed, etc etc.

Because we as a community know about them, we cannot have the authentic “Wow, look! Brand new items for us to get this holiday!”. I think we all know that if we follow the exact same pattern, all that will occur is tons of people making accounts to keep that one rare item forever and ever and then try to sell it later, inviting nonsense further down the road. If we care about the integrity of the game, I do think Pazaz’s vision is better- give players several weeks of playing to get the chance to get the item, and because its not just a “I have to log on this exact weekend to get it”, you have more chances to obtain the item you want.

Will some people play daily for it? Sure, but plenty of people already played hundreds and hundreds of hours before members was released to try and be one of the best. I think in this version, you are able to have players who can really only get on occasionally and die hard fans enjoy the game, and actually work towards the items they’d like to have without needing anything extra.

I know some people will probably not agree with me and that’s alright, but for this live server (which I will remind, is definitely not meant to be completely authentic), it works for us.

Thanks as always for your opinions. If y’all want to argue more, feel free

Turtle having a phat doesn’t invalidate him..he just wants what’s best for the game. @Pazaz

I don’t disagree, but the implication is amusing, no? :squinting_face_with_tongue:

I have nothing against Turt or his partyhat, but I am saddened to see an upstanding and valuable community member fall into the “let’s-complain-about-rares” trap. I am trying to shock him out of it!

If 1% of the effort spent belaboring the rares argument was instead directed towards research and development, we’d have several more completed game revisions, flying cars, or possibly even both.

This is the staff team’s official stance on rares:

It’d be nice if we got a “wow! rares? cool!” or similar (and this is likely the opinion held by the silent majority of the community!)

But unfortunately a vocal minority seems to take issue no matter what decision is made. Our scientists are working tirelessly to determine why this is. When we find out why, we’ll get back to you.

And yes, I am deliberately disregarding arguments (because they’re tiresome) and uncharitably pointing out ironies in other users’ posts (because they’re funny).

But this is not done without reason! Consider the way my posts might sound to you, and then realize: posts complaining about rares may sound exactly the same way to me! That is to say they’re pretty ridiculous and I imagine (hope) you regret not doing something more productive.

Each participant is meant to make this realization independently. That’s my approach to forum moderation, yes it’s unorthodox but I find it pays dividends when people have their eureka moments. Hopefully I didn’t spoil anyone’s time by spelling it out here.

So! Before posting further, I humbly request that you ask yourself one question:

… because if so, I’ll grouse with you, but I’ll only grouse about your grousing and you won’t like the way I do it! When you realize I’m acting out a caricature of you, maybe you’ll even be cross with me! But you’ll understand, even if you don’t fully appreciate it in the moment.

I do this instead of wholesale shutting down the discussion, fully aware that either action taken by me as a moderator will be condemned by a vocal minority (mostly just Ohrami though).

Much like releasing rares, there is no way for me to win, so I simply choose an option I feel is entertaining.

Enjoy the grind!

I can agree with this. It is clear that some already have an unhealthy addiction with this game and others with the gambling aspect. This kind of re-enforces that.
I can see doing holiday drops as a method of bringing them into the game.

I too have some opinion of a method not at all described :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been spamming Weaver Sword/Dagger buttons for 18+ hours on GW2; did something happen recently?

Look. The rares discussion has been argued a million times. The fact of the matter is that there is no authentic way to release them. All methods that everyone is coming up with are automatically flawed.

Hundreds of players have mentioned wanting rares to come into the game. And Lost City wants to respect the players and show you guys that they care. Since no method will be authentic, the main two things to keep in mind is rarity and fairness.

  1. Rarity: If rares are released for a holiday event or something similar, all players will get one and now the “rares” aren’t rare. The entire idea of a rare is that it’s an uncommon item, so it’s important that there are limited amounts released.
  2. Fairness: Coming up with a method that doesn’t give any player or groups of players an unfair advantage is important. All players should have more or less an equal chance of getting an item.

The method that Lost City chose is the best possible balance. It ensures that there won’t be mass amounts of items released. It’s a fair method that all players will have an equal opportunity to receive an item. The method of obtaining them does not distract you from playing the game. You literally get them from just playing normally.

No method is perfect. That’s why this discussion has happened 1,000 times already. Everyone has their opinion on how it should be done. And Lost City did their best to find a fair and effective way to make the players happy and get rares in the game. This is a preservation server where 99.9% of gameplay is authentic. You should be happy that rares are being released at all.

whiteturtle, branon, Laura and BigShot, thanks for taking the time and effort to discuss this endless matter.
I only want to add this to the overall problem: as it is agreed that there’s no fair method available to release rares (which is a logical conclusion), wouldn’t it be best for the present and future community to not release them whatsoever? An unjust act will still leave an unjust trait of consequences. Being “unfair but not that much” is still unfair.

read the rares news post to see the method they are proposing, I’m sure that 99% of the community disapproves of it, and will only hurt the project in the future.

“There is no authentic way to release them” lmao its like you missed the proposition at the beggining of the post, now I’m convinced this is a scheme for certain devs to rwt them, lmfao!
