I went to the rooftop of Varrock castle and expected to see guards by the training dummies. I distinctly remember training ranged there before the Varrock graphics update. Were they added later in the game?
1000000% I absolutely remember this too, it was an op spot to safe spot them. I also vaguely remember being able to hit the training dummies with my bow? I ran up there like four times now expecting the guards and keep forgetting ! We demand answers!
You’re talking about the roof top where they are also missing, I was mistaken and am talking about the middle floor. Varrock is lacking in security
The current Cache version is May 18th 2004. Right after beta. I’ll look through the cache versions in a second and find when those guards were added. Give me a minute.
Edit: I tried using OSRS.world
Didn’t see them in a 2005 or a 2006 version. They do eventually appear up there but in my quick searching I only found one on OSRS version.
I’ll keep checking. I did view 317 build and that was one of the first caches used to build private servers and they weren’t up there. More to post.

Guard’s haven’t been graphically reworked. Castle has. No guards.

My friend helped me find this video from 2006 before the rework (timestamped) You’ll see that there are indeed guards up there, at least at the time this video was made
I’m guessing that information about NPCs aren’t included in cache if you don’t actually go to the floor, only the geometry? Just speculating, having never dealt with the RS cache before
That is exactly where I remember them. Maybe when they added the f2p mith / addy arrow update?
That was March 29th 2005. I checked around then. The data isn’t complete but it had NPCs even on the same floor but no guards.
Edit: I remember hearing the Mods say that sometimes somethings from the cache are missing this might be one of them.
