Community Rares -- What could've been done better?

The actual method on how rares are obtained are okay with me even if I would like to know the details more but the timing could have been better. I think if the rare weekends were launched at the same time as p2p it would probably have increased the amount of rares into the game drastically even with whatever the current rates are. We had over 2k at launch and I think the rare weekends would have held on to a lot of players who quit shortly into p2p. I think this would have emulated the way rares slowly went up in price over the years on rs2 the best.

Thats a great idea, releasing during p2p release. But honestly, we have more updates on the one, and some major ones, so hopefully by the time we get our next update, the rares will be more established, or even still being dropped…

I thinks it’s a fun way to add them into the game and authentic in terms of not adding new things to the 2004 version.

I always thought it would of been best to sneak them in as a rare drop on their respective holiday for this year would of made more sense. Have the event for like 2 weeks and give more of a ā€œI was there during that timeā€ rarity rate.

With such a low drop rate and RNG based, it’s totally possible that there will be no Red H’ween or Red partyhat or Purple Party hat. Wild.

There will be a red h ween mask. Pazaz is gonna give it to me because i have a sweet milky heart and im full of love.

I hope I don’t get a 1 of when it comes to a rare. It’s been my secret fantasy to sabotage like that. I’d alch it.

Indeed. This event seems designed such that it is getting players to (temporarily) grind harder than normal, including those players which had quit or gone inactive prior, which by the end, even if they didn’t receive a rare, their account will have progressed far enough that they will be much better able to participate in the later content updates while also feeling more invested in this game, raising the odds of their activity persisting after the event is over.

I do agree with you that giving out more crackers rather than less doesn’t carry much of a risk. Crackers are unique from other Rares in the sense that they may ā€œself-deleteā€ if their price is lower than the Phats that can be obtained from them, which could happen if the Crackers are abundant. Besides, the Crackers are divided up and distributed to several other Rares (the different colours of Phats).

Pazaz doesn’t care for rares. This event was to satisfy people who wanted the authentic experience. I guess if you estimate your player base won’t exceed 100 within a year it makes sense to only have 20 in the game which can be easily lost, forgotten or stolen.

I personally would prefer say 20 hours of playtime to be eligible throughout the week. I work a week out of two and every other weekend has overtime available. The OT is a choice, so that’s on me but being ousted for having a 3-2-2-3 work schedule feels bad (12 to 16 hours shifts, most I could play is 2 very inefficient hours while preparing next day’s lunch.)

Allowing us to use playtime during the week would be good for a few of us, specially as someone who has days off during the week in my case.

But that is just me and it might not work for others. I don’t think there is a perfect solution but allowing for playtime rather than specific days sounds better to me.

How many rares are currently in game? and colors and what not? I feel like theres 10 blue partyhats and hardly any others.

It does kinda suck that they’re only distributed on the weekends..

Seems a lot more fair tbh, been grinding daily. The odds are pushing me away really. But it’s whatever, played without rares and without mems for months anyways

I like everything but possibly (since we don’t actually know it) the rarity. They are too random to obtain. My current math based on early numbers say you would have to play around 40-50 hours per weekend to get a rare. Outside of that, you just ā€œget luckyā€. I think they should be twice, possibly three times as common to have 500-750 in the game at the end rather than 200-300. Granted I have more of a mentality that this game is to attain all the things we couldn’t as kids.

Pazaz is the only one who knows. There was a tracker but that’s falling behind due to a lack of inputs. Blue Party hats and White seem to be the most abundant. Team zamorak is losing to team saradomin for sure.

Yeah I agree, although instead of changing the rarity I suggested in another post (about weekday rares) that they could open up Fridays for rares to be obtainable. I’ll post the TL;DR here so it’s not completely lost to the archives:

  • 3 days (~72hrs) gives players more time to obtain rares without changing much else
  • weekday only players are able to join in the rare hunt
  • covers the entire weekend for those of us in odd timezones (yay)

imo more rares in the game = better (as long as they are still ā€˜rare’) so I’m glad they started a couple hours early this weekend, hopefully it continues. That’s about all I’d want changed

As a player that does not get much time if any to play in general, I have especially limited time to play on weekends without sacrificing sleep. For the chance of getting a rare I would and have been doing just that and will likely continue to do so until the event is over.

That being said, introducing rares in a game designed to stay as true to time and the original game as possible is no easy task and like it has been said on these forums many times; you won’t make every player happy.

I do play much more on the weekdays and would like an opportunity to claim a rare on a day where I get to play more but that is only thinking of myself and my situation. That isn’t fair even if there are others like me who are in the same boat.

What we can do is try our best to play and get lucky, even if we played all day everyday with a chance of getting a rare RNG is RNG. So I say good luck to everyone and I hope everyone gets at least one wearable rare so that everyone can feel cool and special but even if we don’t, have fun with it!
